As we are becoming more and more in tune to our environment, Costa Rica's tourism rate is on the rise. As long as I can remember it's been know that Costa Rica has the best natural park systems in all of Central America. Now it's your turn to come and enjoy birds, volcanoes and amazing mammals in their own natural environment for your next vacation.
Two of the best and most accessible volcanoes are Irazu and Poas. There are roads leading to both of the volcanoes so you can get a birds eye view from above. You will be amazed that you are standing just feet away from the mouth of these incredible active craters.
Arenal is still the most active volcano in the world. It sat dormant for hundreds of years the erupted in July 1968. To this day, it still bellows ash columns, sending red glowing lava over its edges.
Have you ever thought about hiking through some of the densest forest in Central America? Corcovado National Park is known as the wildest rainforest in Costa Rica. Home to over 500 species of trees it's sure to keep your attention and they also have camping facilities for those who can't pull themselves away.
Cano Negro, a sleepy meagerly populated location that is home to a diversity of waterfowl. Birders are pleasantly surprised by the assortment of birds located in this National Park. Not only are the birds in abundance here, it is populated with large mammals like Pumas, Jaguars and Tapirs due to its remoteness and lack of human inhabitants.
Green sea turtles have called Tortuguero their breeding ground for many years. Out of the six marine turtles that call Costa Rica home for nesting, four of those return every year to Tortuguero. This says a lot for this amazing place due to the fact that there are only eight species of marine turtles worldwide.
Some of the outlying farmers are trying to put a road through the park which will severely endanger the wildlife that calls Tortuguero National Park it's home. Wildlife like monkeys, reptiles, birds and sloths inhabit this beautiful area. Half of the birds and reptile population live in the national park and could suffer due to the disruption caused by this road.
Before we run out of time, its important to mention all the incredible water activities Costa Rica is also famous for. Surfing, fishing, white water rafting are a few that come to mind. Manuel Antonio boasts itself as the most beautiful beach or world class Tarpon catch and release fishing in Barra del Colorado. Then there's always the #3 ranked in the world, windsurfing at Lake Arenal and so much more.
But most of all, it's the natural beauty that brings people to Costa Rica. The lush vegetative rich rain forest of Monteverde is the most visited spot for canopy tours in Costa Rica. Standing high above the forest floor on a suspension bridge or flying even higher through the sky attached to a cable, zipping from tree to tree, it all awaits you in beautiful Monteverde Costa Rica.
