Perth Will Make You Want To Come Back Again And Again

By Frederick Hoymer

A welcoming spot in central Scotland, Perth is sure to leave you wanting more. It is easy to get here from everywhere in Scotland and the trip from England is quite easy as well. With the international airports and Glasgow and Edinburgh nearby, Perth is accessible from all over the world.

You will find plenty to keep you busy in Perth. There is something for every interest. Just to wander around the local streets is a joy with all the gardens and old buildings that you will pass.

Speaking of old buildings, there are plenty worth noting. Scone palace, a short distance from the town, was built in the early 19th century but the location has seen the crowning of 42 Scottish kings. St. Johns Kirk is the oldest building in Perth, built back in 1159. St. Ninians Cathedral is also worth a look.

There are art galleries and museums to answer your needs for culture. One of the oldest in Scotland is the Perth Museum and Art Gallery. Of special interest is the Perth Festival of the Arts, an annual two week event which includes opera, theater, classical music and art.

If it is sports that you prefer, you have many possibilities here such as rugby, football, curling and volleyball. A horse racing course at Scone palace grounds features not just horse racing but other events also.

For family fun, make a stop at the Perth Leisure Pool. This water park includes two flumes, a wild water channel, six pools and whirlpools. You will find a shallow pool for the children as well as a picnic spot and outdoor play park for summer use. Additional options include a gym, sauna and steam.

There are other opportunities for unique visits including whiskey distilleries. There is a glass factory where visitors can see how glass blowing is done. And a winery specializing in fruit wines where you can take a tour and taste the merchandise.

When you are done with the more active part of your day, Perth is home to a wide variety of restaurants with cuisine from all over the globe. In the evening, stop by one of the pubs to experience real Scottish whiskey in a setting that has been serving them for years.

When you visit Perth, you are surrounded by history but with all the modern conveniences. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy this place because it will definitely charm you. You will want to come back for more.
