The Different Modes Of Transport

By Byron Jonas

Major improvements have been realized in transportation industry as a result of technological changes. Most of the available modes of transport have witnessed massive changes either in infrastructure or the components during the last century. These advancements are aimed at improving the safety factor of individual aspect of transit as well as increasing the efficiency of the service.

Road transit, rail transit and pipeline use land as a medium of conveyance. Road transit is the most common and developed means of transit and is applicable in the whole world. The massive use of this system of movement is encouraged by the relative cheapness of developing its necessary infrastructure. Its use has grown immensely due to the advancements in the auto mobile industry technology.

Motor vehicles are being manufactured with gadgets to aid maximize on stability and help reduce the chances of major injuries in the event of an accident. These facilities include the introduction of airbags which reduce the effect of inertia force in case of a crash.

Rail transit is popular for its mass carriage of passengers and goods. One train can carry approximately what ten buses could have carried conveniently. The industry has witnessed a major shift in technology application from the initial use of steam engine to the current ultramodern electric powered trains. Trains are advantageous in the transit of goods due to their fast speed and they are not affected by traffic.

Pipeline is used in the conveyance of oils and fuels from the refining center to areas of utilization. They are a safe means of delivering the highly flammable product over long distances other than the use of trucks which can cause serious accidents. The suitability of pipeline in delivery of fuels is its efficiency once the infrastructure has been set since there is only minimal maintenance services required.

Use of airplanes is the fastest known method of transportation and it enables movement of people and goods between continents at minimal time. Movement of perishable flowers and fresh farm produce is done by this service effectively. The industry is witnessing vast technological improvements aimed at reducing human errors, engine failures in a bid to improve the safety factor of the industry.

The improvements in these industry are aimed at improving the quality of service rendered and most importantly improve on the safety factor. Accidents emanating from means of transit in this industry have caused many deaths. The leading mode in accidents is road transportation but whereas airplane accidents are rare, they cause fatal damage whenever they do occur.
