By Anton Maverick

A fantastic driving holiday can be yours with Campervan Hire Sydney as you travel through the Hawkesbury area of New South Wales. Located just north of Sydney, it isn't difficult to reach and can offer some surprising vistas, including valleys, gorges, green rolling hills as well as some Australian stream communities, for example Windsor.

The Hawkesury area is located between the Hunter Valley and the Blue Mountains and was settled a short five years after EU settlement, making it one of the earliest settlements in Australia. History buffs will appreciate the colonial buildings which include churches, houses, schools and court buildings which offer an understanding of early Australia. There's no shortage of things worth doing on the Hawksbury, including swimming and boating activities.

For land lubbers, you've an chance to ride some Aussie horses. For indoor pursuits, there are loads of studios and antique shops to visit as well as some great fresh seafood restaurants. In colonial times, the Hawksbury River was a major transport route, but nowadays, it provides attractive scenery and many leisure activities. Drop in to the riverbank city of Brooklyn and have a go at fishing or enjoy the vista of many fishing boats which dot the brook landscape.

There are lots of islands in the area and they all hold an enormous history dating back to Native and colonial times. There is a lot to see in the Hawksbury area, so unless you were wanting a very short day trip, the right way is to plan to spend a couple of days or perhaps a week, to drive through the various areas in the area.

The Forgotten Valley route is one such area and you will be amazed at the natural wonder of the brook and mountain perspectives, including enormous sandstone cliffs. There are masses of historic sites to check out as well.
