By Stacy Robinson

One of the most common topics of conversation of people of all ages and socioeconomic groups is fishing. Listening to people talk about their fishing trip and experiences is very exciting and fun. If you've never been fishing, listening to some of these adventures may be enough to get you interested in fishing. However, if you don't know where to begin, that could be a problem. Here is a basic fishing 101 of the essentials that will have you out fishing and creating your storylines to swap in no time.

On January 28, 2011 a new largemouth bass record was set with a fish caught out of Lake Austin. The fish was caught by T.J. Nissen who was fishing with his son. The 16 lb largemouth bass set a new record for Lake Austin as well as a new record for the state of Texas. However, the all tackle world record of 22.4 lbs set in 1932 still holds solid. A while back lake Austin experienced low water levels allowing Nissen and his son to observe areas of the lake that are normally under water. They took the time to study the terrain and see where largemouth bass lived. After careful study and mapping, they waited for the lake to return to normal and then started fishing in the area they thought was best. Their research project proved to be correct. Nissen and his son, over the last couple of years have caught several large bass weighing in double digits. Armed with this knowledge they are hopeful they will break the current world record. Only time will tell.

Fishing is a great activity to share with the family. It is an activity that even two year olds can participate in. Having activities where the entire family can participate is necessary to keep the family together and functioning. Furthermore fishing is a good reason to travel to other parts of the country. Many people that travel are not certain what to do when they get there. Fishing becomes the activity as well as the reason for the travel. There is some type of fishing in almost every part of the world.

The next thing is to decide which lake you're going fishing on. It is mush easier to learn how to fish on a lake or pond than moving water. After that you need to decide if you will fish from the shore or from a boat. Fishing from a boat is more exciting and will you allow you to move from place to place if the fish aren't biting. If you're fishing from a boat a fish finder should be in your future. While it is not a required piece of equipment there are a few anglers who would disagree that they are a pleasure to use. It is generally the boat owner's responsibility to purchase the fish finder.

If you don't own a boat, fishing is a perfect reason to buy a boat. Most people have considered buying a boat but could never justify the expense. Fishing is a perfect reason to buy. Lastly if you take up fishing and buy a new boat you need to buy a new truck to pull the boat. Most married men have tried to convince their spouse of the need to purchase a new truck, but haven't been successful. Fishing is the answer. These are the ten reasons to begin fishing now. There are many others that may provide you motivation for taking up fishing if these don't work for you. Fishing is the perfect sport for almost every reason you can think of.
