Ways To Accomplish Custom Painting Of Motorcycles

By Tamera Keith

All the nicks and crack that motorcycles develop through regular use can be erased by custom painting Scottsbluff. All vehicles develop dents and could not be avoided if it is regularly driven by the owner. A painting done as a restoration job by an expert erase all signs of damage and make the motorcycle look new.

New bikes are painted a standard design before it goes out of the assembly line. Some owners who wish to personalize their vehicles modify or erase the coating completely and replace it with their own choice of colors and design. Customizing a bike can be done in a professional shop or by the owner themselves.

The tools and supplies that are needed to accomplish a customizing job include the air compressor, an air hose, air regulators, and a respirator with a filter. Paint guns are also needed, preferably one for every color used. You will also need a polisher and buffing compound for the finishing touches. Pieces of sandpaper of different grades, putty, primer paint, clear coating, and the base coatings should also be available.

An area in your storage room or a portion of the garage provides room for the customizing project. Protect the floor and walls by covering it with plastic sheets or tarpaulin. You should also have adequate lighting in the room.

Make sure there is proper ventilation for the room. Paint fumes can be toxic if inhaled continuously. An exhaust fan or an industrial fan is useful besides open windows and doors. The fans can also help hasten the time it takes for the paint to dry.

The supplies should all be available from the local hardware supply store. You can also obtain the equipment from the same place. Add the respirator with a filter in the inventory to be used as emergency tool if the paint fumes got very concentrated.

To start the project, detach the fenders and the tank from the motorcycle body. Use the different grades of sandpaper to remove the old color. You can also use sandblasting if the equipment is available. Wipe down the parts after sanding to make sure that there is no residue left. Repeat the sanding process until all the old coating is removed, leaving only a smooth surface.

If there are any dents on the parts, utilize the filler putty and let it dry. Utilize sandpaper to remove excess filler and again create a smooth surface. Repeat the filling and sanding process for all dents and cracks. Using a spray gun, apply two separate coats of epoxy as primer for your base paint. Use black color to reveal dented areas. Utilize a flowing putty mixture to fix the damage.

Sand all the newly filled surfaces again to achieve smoothness. Spray another coat of base coat and let dry. Thinner layers hasten the drying process. After all the primer has dried, apply the clear coating. Make sure the surface is even using finer grade sandpaper. Custom painting Scottsbluff is completed by using a polisher and a buffing compound to make the newly stained parts shine.
