The Pros And Cons Of Joining A Discount Travel Club

By Gloria Gardner

A discount travel club is a consortium of businesses, in tourism related industries, who work together to form a whole host of wholesale packages at lower prices. These packages are then marketed to the public through various vendors such as hotels, agents and airlines. There are many benefits for members; however, prospective members should be wary of scams.

Various types of groups offer this service. Each had different requirements and specials. Some are aimed at family vacations while other are more exclusionary. However, they generally work in the same way in that they require a monthly or annual fee. This fee is usually not more than a few dollars. In return, members get access to thousands of deals.

The benefits include cheap trips to various destinations, low cost hotel rates and specials on food and drinks. Some added benefits could include reduced car rental rates and entrance into tourist attractions. These allow people to tourists in their own country without the high prices.

However, not all the programs are legitimate. The best way to avoid being taken advantage of is to research the offer and the company before handing over any money. You can check the legitimacy of the offer by doing an internet search, checking websites that list and expose scams and perusing relevant discussion forums.

One tell tale sign of a scam is the fee. Genuine programs require that you pay a nominal fee which is not more then a few dollars. Programs with exorbitant prices or lifetime promises should be treated with caution. The latter types don't often meet the promised made.

If you are a keen traveller then a discount travel club is good option for you. It will keep your cots down and potentially expose you to destinations you wouldn't have otherwise considered. Bear in mind that some groups are money making schemes and you should make sure you do your homework before handing over payment.
