What To See In St. Augustine, Florida

Of all the top historic cities that could be found in Florida, St. Augustine may turn out to be the most interesting. You really do not have to go anywhere here to find out how interesting it is; all you have to do is to walk through its thoroughfares. However, if you want to check out the historic spots, it is best that you consider learning what these are first. With this, your trip would be more worthwhile.

Among the must-see places in St. Augustine is the Castillo de San Marcos. While this may have a connotation that this is a castle, it is actually Spanish fort. The imposing structure was once built as a protection against marauding pirates. Now, however, it remains a hulking figure in St. Augustine. Preserved with some improvements, it is currently a tourist spot that continues to attract a great number of visitors each year.

The Lincolnville Historic District is another important site that visitors in St. Augustine must see. It is here that a number of other historic locations are also found. Among these are Freedom Trail, the Excelsior School Museum of African American History, and St. Benedict the Moor School. All these are actually sites where the history of the Civil Rights Movement is featured. A tour in this district would be rich learning experience in matters of American History.

There have been a number of major golfing events held in St. Augustine. This could be attributed to the fact that there are so many great golf venues here. St. Augustine courses are maintained at the best professional standards and some are host to major competitions. With Florida's weather being perfect for golfing, you can always find a fun course to play.

Because of the fact that it has good courses, it is only understandable that golf is a very popular sport in the city. The venues definitely play a major factor in this regard. As a result, St. Augustine has never failed to come up with golfers that could actually be at par with the pros.
