Scholarships For Aviation Programs Can Help Get You Up In The Sky!

By Aiden Garcia

The aviation field is broad and covers numerous skills and competences. Training covers piloting, flight attendants, aviation mechanics and aircraft dispatch. Aviation training programs are open for those looking to start or advance a career in the aviation industry or the adventurous individuals with a passion for piloting. As much as aviation is fun it is quite demanding as it involves travel and working long hours.

Aviation training programs that target piloting are industry and government regulated. The curriculum for these aviation training programs, and the required flight hours for licensing are regulated by the relevant industry bodies. However other programs' curricula such as flight attendants and flight dispatch are less regulated. Some airlines even run their own internal aviation training programs for their staff.

Generally, the education requirement for an aviation program is two to four years, though the standard is becoming a Bachelor's degree. In addition to the in-depth courses on aviation, students will complete courses in general education, giving them a well-rounded college experience.

Offering an even larger group of scholarships is the Woman in Aviation International. Open to all members of this professional organization, it provides training programs for just about every kind of commercial and private airplane as well as grants dispatchers through technicians, administration and more. From the sounds of things, if you want to specialize or get the certification for a specific type of plane, this is a great place to not only find the training, but the financing for it.

Another association for female pilots is the International Organization of Women Pilots, aka the 99s. It created the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship to assist in the creation of more aviation and aerospace educators. This scholarship can go up to $5,000. Like these other groups, the 99s also offers a number of other scholarships and grants, too.

Income and Job Details People who complete an aviation program and meet any other requirements in place to obtaining employment in this field will be pleased with the earning potential available to them. Pilots often find themselves earning well over $100,000 each year! Higher levels of education will help people seeking employment in the aviation industry secure better positions.

Finding job openings in this field is predicted to become easier in the next 10 years, as employment prospects are expected to increase by almost 20 percent for pilots. Living in an area that has easy access to airports will be helpful in seeking employment. Providing flight instruction or working in a flight control tower are both additional options available to someone who has completed a degree in this field.
