Some Facts About Female Midlife Crisis

By Tanisha Berg

Midlife crisis isn't reserved for men only. Women also experience different changes when they come to certain ages, but female midlife crisis is still something entirely different. When it happens to men, they usually try to overcompensate lost years, while women often get into depression. They were often preoccupied with different needs of their family members all their lives.

Most women spend most of their lives caring for others. They have children and take care of them, they have husbands that need someone to take care of them, and they have all other things to do and people who rely on them. They usually don't have enough time to have any special interests. Once they finally get that extra time, they don't really know what to do with it.

Working women usually have fewer problems with this type of crisis. They are more than just wives and mothers, they earn their money and they have their own careers. This is really important, even if you don't have any especially interesting job. Maybe your life was harder, but this transition period will probably be easier for you.

Once your children leave your home, you suddenly have too much free time. At first, the house is empty and too big, too silent. If your husband is still working, you can wrap your life around taking care of his needs, but it won't be enough for long. At some point, you will have to find something that will occupy you.

Another problem related to this period of life is accepting physical changes of your face and body. You can still be really attractive, but the fact is that middle aged woman won't stop the traffic. Yesterday you were still young and sexy, and today people see someone else. And you still feel so young inside.

At one point in your life people will inevitably start to perceive you as a middle aged woman. One morning you will realize that your youth is gone, and there is no point in dreaming about new and different life. You simply don't have time or energy to do some things you were putting away for so long.

Now, when you don't have to be at home taking care of others, you can have your own career. The problem is that you have no experience, and most employers hire younger people. You know so many things and you are willing to work and learn, but it is so hard to get a chance. Suddenly, you realize that people around you perceive you as a middle aged woman.

Your first reaction will be shock. You might get angry, you might fall into depression, you just shouldn't lose your hope. It might be hard if you are going through menopausal changes at the same time, because all these issues together are hard to fight.

After all that, it would be strange if you didn't get into a midlife crisis. But, things aren't so black. You are perfectly capable to overcome all this. You are beautiful, confident, capable woman with so much to offer. You just need to find something that will occupy you, and you have to start over. It is never too late.
