All You Need to Know About Hookahs

By John McCree

Looking for the right shisha flavor for you? This post reveals numerous good resources for you in identifying and purchasing your ideal shisha flavor.

The flavorful tobacco, which is typically used in a hookah is commonly referred to as shisha. Standard, modern-day shisha consists of some or all of the following ingredients:

1. Tobacco

2. Treacle (uncrystallized syrup produced in refining sugar)

3. Honey

4. Sugar

5. Molasses

6. Glycerin

7. Nicotine

8. Dried Fruit

9. Distilled Water

Although today's most well-known shisha manufacturers have become very creative with their flavors, such as Starbuzz's "Blue Mist" or Fantasia's "Cuban Mojito", the mainstay shisha flavors continue to be fruit flavors such as Apple, Banana, or Mango. Many of the newer flavors do, however, take their cues from the tried and true traditional fruit flavors. Flavors such as Apple pie, blueberry muffin and banana split are some of the popular ones.

Because of the improved production procedures, it has become quite simple to add flavors to shisha and therefore many flavors is available out there. Unique flavors are made because essentially every ingredient can be mixed in dried, tobacco, glycerin and sweetener.

Social Smoking

Individuals generally smoke hookah in a social gathering where they can enjoy the company of their friends. Once hookah became very popular in the Middle Eastern nations, every single social establishment began serving hookahs. Today they are seen in places from smoking parlors, to nightclubs, to the home.

Much of the increasing popularity of shisha can be credited to the flavor and calming effect of the smoke. People smoke it out of social pursuit and not for some biological effect it has. Cigarettes on the flip side are addictive and provide a quick fix with a very high dose of nicotine. While a hookah session lasts longer than a cigarette, the former isn't addictive for the smoker.

Getting the Most Flavor from Your Hookah

No rocket science here, just some good common sense and discipline can go a long way when it comes to getting the most from your hookah. If you are a hookah owner then you should make it a habit of cleaning your hookah frequently After each smoking session you need to wash your hookah. It is better to wash hookah with warm water than with cold water.

In order to have a smooth smoking session then you need to stop the coals from burning the tobacco during the session. The tobacco shouldn't get stuck to the foil, better still, the tobacco shouldn't even touch the aluminum foil. While you are packing the bowl, ensure that the tobacco is at least a couple of millimeters below the rim of the bowl. So that when you wrap the aluminum foil, there is distance between the tobacco and the foil. One more technique that you can use to maintain distance between foil and the tobacco is to put two toothpicks in cross on the tobacco. Tobacco shouldn't be packed down very tightly in the bowl. A loose mound of tobacco that will allow the air to pass through it is excellent. Doing this, you will be able to get a flavorful hit without having to strongly puff on the hose. Many people also use two sheets of foil to prevent overheating. The principle is very simple don't burn the shisha.
