Oahu - A Perfect Family Vacation Destination

By Bernice Murray

Oahu has been one of the top destinations in the world for a long time. Its gorgeous scenery and perfect climate make it a great place to spend a tropical vacation. Be aware though, if you are looking for something that is a slower pace and far away from society, then Oahu is not the place for you. Oahu is by far the busiest island in Hawaii and some find it to be too busy. However, it really depends on what you are looking for in your vacation. If you would like some variety like sun bathing, hiking, surfing, shopping and fine dining; then Oahu is the place for you. There is so much to do in Oahu that you could go numerous times without seeing everything. You can spend the day shopping then drive up to the North Shore to watch the surfers and night and enjoy a nice quiet glass of wine while watching the sunset.

Among the most famous of the tourist attractions on Oahu will probably be the Polynesian Cultural Center. The Polynesian Cultural Center is regarded as a big "living museum" that takes up over forty acres around the North Shore of Oahu. Within, one can find villages that signify life from eight island destinations around Polynesia. Representatives re-create day-to-day lives within these great small islands by way of displaying arts and crafts from those diverse regions. It's a good spot to spend a full day with your loved ones and be certain to stay late to attend their world famous luau and feast. It costs extra, but is well worth it.

Another favorite destination for families is the Dole Plantation. This neat little spot attracts over 1 million visitors per year! When you are there, make sure to take a ride on the Pineapple Express train. The narrated train rides around the plantation and shows off some of best views in Oahu. Once you are done the train then take a try at the World's Largest Maze. There are over 14,000 pineapple plants that make up this huge 3 acre maze. Also, don't forget to visit the gift shop where you will find some very unique souveniers and make sure to try some Dole frozen yogurt. So great on a hot day!

If you love the beach and snorkelling you will absolutely love Hanauma Bay! People from all over the world come here to snorkel. The bay is surrouned by three sheer cliffs that keep the water calm and perfect for swimming. You will see tons of colorful tropical fish, octopus, sea turtles and of course coral reefs. When you want to relax, the beach is also amazing, providing you with gorgeous views and sun. Make sure to take your camera!

Waikiki Beach is another place you will definitely want to visit. If you are in Hawaii, then I assume you are a beach lover. This beach will definitely make you fall in love. The sand, water and views are spectacular and if you like to watch people then this is a great place for that too. Don't stay on the beach your whole vacation though, there is so much other great stuff to see on Oahu.

These three places are just a small sample of the many great things to do on Oahu. There are many other things to do on Oahu or on other Hawaiian islands. If you've never been, make sure to do some research so that you make the most out of your trip.
