Discover Egypt with Fascinating Day Trips

By Steve Alexander

Ultimately, the best way to get the most out of your holiday to Egypt is to plan day trips from your base destination. This way you get to see more of a country without trying to zip from place to place on a limited schedule. Picking a key base is important. Somewhere which lends itself well to day trips is Sharm el Sheikh.

As well as the gorgeous sunshine and luxurious hotels, this sumptuous beach resort on the edge of the Red Sea is packed with things to see and do. There are many fun activities in and out of the water, great shopping facilities and some of the best diving spots in the world. You can take some excellent day trips from Sharm to break up your holiday, which means you're not limited to the confines of the resort coast.

You could spend a day in nearby Cairo, that city in the sand, from Sharm el Sheikh. As well as the iconic and mysterious Sphinx, you'll be able to visit the ancient pyramids that Egypt is famous for. Hop aboard a 4x4 for a desert safari in some of the emptiest terrain on the globe or take a camel ride in the desert.

Alternatively, you could head over to Luxor on the banks of the River Nile for the day to investigate the tombs of the Pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens. These tombs are a breathtaking necropolis housing some of the oldest monuments and tombs on the planet. The city was once the capital of the known world and holds the key to some incredible historic sites.

Built to worship the ancient Egyptian gods, you can also visit the ruins of massive temples. You'll be able to return to your digs in Sharm feeling like you've stepped back into Ancient Egypt for the day after exploring the sights of Luxor and Cairo.
