If your business trip or vacation requires that you leave your personal car at the airport for any length of time you should read up about what to expect. Since the terrorist attacks occurred airport security as well as airport parking security has increased.

Before you even consider leaving your house it is a good idea to call ahead and find out what the parking situation is like at your chosen airport. You will need to find out what they require to use their long-term parking, whether they have off-site parking or whether there is a shuttle bus service dedicated to them. You car being towed, fines and even a longer search period before you can board your flight, all this can happen because you parked in the wrong place.

Most airports employ three different types of parking, drop off, long-term and off site. Drop off parking is meant for minutes instead of hours and is just for the purpose of dropping someone off to catch a flight. This area is monitored constantly by security personnel who are specifically looking for empty and abandoned vehicles.

Long-term parking is set aside for those people who are actually going to fly somewhere. This is generally set on airport property but away from the terminal itself. Off-site parking is the last option available to you. This options is normally located in the same area as the airport and will have a regularly scheduled shuttle bus service to take you to the terminal. As with long-term parking, there will most likely be a fee for using these services, but the charges will be considerably lower than those at the airport. Although it is a good idea to keep the fact that off-site parking is not normally patrolled by airport security.

Many hotels offer a shuttle service to and from their local airport, which can be a great help when traveling from city to city. Many hotels do this for their guests for free. It is for this very reason that many travelers book with these hotels because they find it relaxing not having to worry about transport to and from their hotel.
