What to pack in your beach bag

By Alex Dunlop

When holidaying in hot and sunny places, it is extremely important that you have a well packed beach bag. And it is not just your fun that is at risk here, a poorly packed beach bag can leave you more exposed to the health risks associated with a day at the beach. It is also important that you pick the right kind of bag to put these things in. What follows is a look at what kind of things you should be packing to protect your health, and your good times.

Picking the right beach bag is the first thing you should be doing. Keep in mind the extreme conditions that beach bags are exposed to, such as the rough hot sand, the wet salty sea and the unrelenting sunshine. Because of these conditions, you should pick a bag that is durable, so that it won't break and risk losing your belongings. The size is important too if you are going to fit everything in.

With the bag picked you should be looking at what to pack to keep you safe. High factor sun cream is the most vital and obvious option here. Even if you are looking to get a dark tan, you should bear in mind that low factor creams need to be applied much more often, and you should probably pack high factor just in case you begin to burn. A first aid pack should also be a priority, and should include plasters, insect repellent as well as bite cream. Sunglasses for protecting your eyes from harmful sun rays is also vital.

Now that you have safety covered, it's time to pack for fun. Swimming gear is perhaps the most important thing here, because a trip to the beach without a dip in the sea is just unthinkable. Why not buy a snorkel and some goggles and see if you can spot some of the local marine life? To return to the safety issue, perhaps taking a waterproof capsule for taking your money and valuables with you when you swim is a good idea.

Entertainment is important too. If you are going to the beach with children then you need to make sure that they are kept entertained, as just lying in the sun doesn't have the same appeal when you are young. Books and magazines are a good option, and it will surprise you just how many you can read in a day at the beach.
