Great Destinations for Winter Sun

By Joelie Trant

Getting away to somewhere with a different climate during the British winter is the perfect way of sneaking in some extra summer. You can get depressed with too much winter dreariness, and having a boost of vitamin D from natural sunlight can keep you happier even after the holiday is over. Widen your thinking with some of these holiday options during the grimmer months of the English winter.

The Canary Islands are a great way of getting in on some winter sun without having to pay too much. They're a place that always draws a lot of tourists, and it's not hard to see why. With high temperatures throughout the winter months, and a choice of islands that includes Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, you can be sure to get a holiday that gives you some much needed vitamin D and also caters to whatever pace of holiday you want. Choose partying in Tenerife, or stunning natural beauty in Gran Canaria - it's your call.

An increasingly popular choice for some seriously good-looking coastline is Goa. You have all the points of the compass to choose from in terms of region, but each one has the same hot winter. The sea is pristine, and the sand is as soft and powdery as you could want. The place that is perhaps more famous for offering these qualities, and gives you warm weather all year round as well, is Jamaica. This vibrant part of the Caribbean perfectly blends cultural charm with modern, universal comfort.

Florida gives you a nice balance of not only natural beauty and quality climate, but also lots of things to do, especially as a family. Really you don't have to go much beyond Disney World for younger children, but there's also the fabulous Bush Gardens as well as some stunning national parks too, and the chance to get out on a powerboat ride that takes you as close to alligators as you can get. Also, for grown ups the nightlife and culture of Miami is a great treat.

It's clear to see that there's plenty of choice when it comes to summery getaways in the winter months, so there's no need to settle for dreary England.
