Thinking of starting a new Life in Cyprus?

By Mark Dale

For many people the thought of moving abroad is just a distant dream. However, for some that dream could turn into a reality and one place which is particularly popular with people all around the world is Cyprus. Living in Cyprus in something that should be seriously considered.

Why Cyprus?

Cyprus has some of the best picture postcard scenery you'll ever see, from its mountains to the wonderful sea and beaches. Cyprus is also well known for its wonderful warm and friendly locals with a climate to match, being an all year round sun destination.

Put simply - Cyprus is ideal for anybody looking to live a relaxing, enchanting life.

Things You Should Consider

If you are planning on living in Cyprus then there are several things that you must do before committing yourself. Start off by doing lots of research by using books, magazines, and of course the Internet. This may sound obvious but unfortunately too many people don't do enough research and they find out far too late that they were not fully prepared for a life in Cyprus.

So what should you look out for in Cyprus?

- Your knowledge of the area you plan to move to - How many people are moving and what are the age ranges? - You need to stick to an agreed budget - You will need to know all of the legal implications of life in Cyprus

Obviously a good knowledge of the area you plan to move to is absolutely essential. If possible you should talk to locals and perhaps people who have previously moved there from another location. They will be able to give you a good idea of what living in Cyprus is like and whether they made any mistakes when they moved which you could perhaps learn from.

There is no better way to get to know about what you are letting yourself in for than talking to the locals in the area.

If you have kids then they will take priority over where you can live. Depending on their age, schools, a nursery, child minders, and other facilities for children will be essential to a happy life in Cyprus. For example, you wouldn't want to buy a house in the Cyprus mountains if you need to drive for an hour to take the kids to school.

Finally the legal implications of a move also have to be thought about. You need to make sure that you hire yourself a good lawyer as otherwise you could end up with all kinds of problems when it comes to purchasing the property of your choice.

Problems will arise along the way, such as building delays on new builds, legal problems to do with planning permission, and even sellers pulling out of deal. Always be prepared for this and ensure you have backup plan if something major does go wrong. The laws are different in Cyprus so don't assume anything is the same as where you live now.

Overall life in Cyprus should be rewarding and a great experience as long as you take time to learn about the laws and culture before setting off. You also need to ensure that you learn the facts about your chosen Cyprus area and ensure that it meets the needs of your entire family. If you don't do this then you could end up losing money as well as missing out on the life of your dreams.
