Moving to Cyprus - Things you should do

By Mark Dale

If you have decided to start a new life abroad, but haven't decided on the country yet then consider Cyprus. Many people are moving to Cyprus because of its superb life style and all year round fantastic climate.

Why Consider Living in Cyprus?

The main reason people fall in love with Cyprus is because of its beautiful scenery and atmosphere. It is well known for being the island of love and it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. The climate is second to none and it is simply a place where you can relax and enjoy the rest of your days.

Put simply - Cyprus is ideal for anybody looking to live a relaxing, enchanting life.

Things you should do before moving to Cyprus

If you are planning on living in Cyprus then there are several things that you must do before committing yourself. Start off by doing lots of research by using books, magazines, and of course the Internet. This may sound obvious but unfortunately too many people don't do enough research and they find out far too late that they were not fully prepared for a life in Cyprus.

So what should you think about? Well a few factors you should consider include:

- Chose 1 or 2 areas that you plan to move to and visit them. Hire a car to get around. - Consider how many of you are moving and their ages. This will help determine the property size and location. - You need to set a budget and stick to it. - You will need to know all of the legal implications of moving to Cyprus.

Obviously an excellent knowledge of the area(s) you are planning to move to is absolutely essential. When you visit, speak to the locals and try and meet people who have already made a permanent move to Cyprus. They will be able to advise you on both the good and bad aspects of life in Cyprus.

Remember, there is no better way to get to know the facts about an area than speaking to the locals.

If you have children then major decisions will need to be based around their education and well being. Considering nurseries, schools, child minding, and other facilities for your kids is vitally important to a settled life in Cyprus. For example, a remote villa in the mountains will not be the most suitable location for children who need to be taken to school every day.

The local laws and legal implications of buying property also need thinking about. You need to make sure that you find yourself a good lawyer before you start your property hunt. You'll also need to consider things like pensions if you are retiring to Cyprus.

Problems will arise along the way, such as building delays on new builds, legal problems to do with planning permission, and even sellers pulling out of deal. Always be prepared for this and ensure you have backup plan if something major does go wrong. The laws are different in Cyprus so don't assume anything is the same as where you live now.

Overall living in Cyprus could be great, but you really do need to ensure that you get all of the facts about your chosen Cyprus destination before you actually do move there. If you don't then you could end up regretting the move and you could also potentially lose a lot of money in the process.
