Pruning A Shrub

By Bill Duggen

What does tree pruning means? For increasing the growth and maintaining the desired shape of tree, sometime extra or unwanted plant parts are discarded. This procedure is known as pruning. To sustain the pleasing shape and the size of your tree, you have no simpler option rather than pruning.

When tree should be pruned.Pruning and training is an art which is favorable to fix on infantile trees. With the aid of pruning the resistance capacity of trees will increase against any severe damages before maturity. Most often adults are ignored as these trees dont show better performances although they are pruned expensively. It is wise to exercise pruning on adult trees when they stay in dormancy. There is no other way except pruning, if a tree especially young is getting damaged.

Pruning of juvenile tree We should begin pruning of young trees when they grow into one year old. Through pruning we can recognize and right glitches with the main framework of the tree within the first few years after planting. During pruning the lower branches should not be pruned as they produce food for the tree and provide shadow to subsidiary bark.

You should prune the tree in such a manner that the branches are responsible to make the framework remain 45 degree slope with the main log. The lateral branches always prefer to originate from widely spaced branches if we compare with closely spaced scaffolds.

Pruning the tree when it is large The people of the state think that during storm large tree can hamper their property. So, they are willing to train their trees from top areas. You should not practice topping trees. The central leader and the main branch of the tree is removed through this practice. So the tree is affected badly.

Thinning of tree Through thinning the tree gets more sunlight in the basal portion as the canopy area is becoming spreader by this operation. Thinning is used to increase physical strength and resistance power against any scarcity.

It is thinning which is used to separate departed, cracked, feeble or ailing branches from trees. Finally select the limbs which are out of limit and undesirably grown and cut them to maintain the shape of the tree.

Stop the spreading of tree Heading back is nothing but a strategy for decreasing the whole mass of a tree. You should remove the top portion when you are working with a well developed lateral branch. It is convenient to select a branch that forms a 45 degree angle with the discarded branches in case of heading back to cross lateral branches.

At the time of working with an upward directed limb it is convenient to accomplish slanting cut so that water cant mount up on the cutting place. Proper care should be taken during cutting large branches so that the cutting must not planed with the stem rather the outer side of the lapel.

Pruning wound treatment Untreated cut close quickly when compared to the treated cut. The tree is prone to decay more when the wound is closed as the closed wound provides a suitable growth condition for the wood hindering microorganism. In some case cambial cell may be killed for wound dressing and the wound remains open year after year if no measures are taken
