6 Amazing Locations To See With BVI Yacht Charters

By Marissa Velazquez

Without question, some of the best boating locations in the Caribbean are to be found in the British Virgin Islands. Fantastic seafood restaurants, sublime diving spots and stunning beaches are just some of the attractions to be found in this tropical paradise. Any operator offering BVI yacht charters should be able to provide recommendations as to the best places to visit. That said, the following are six places that are must-sees for visitors to these wonderful islands.

The baths at Virgin Gorda are a series of gigantic granite boulders that are strewn along the beach at the south end of Virgin Gorda. They form a series of caves that contain some amazing formations to explore while snorkeling. Be warned, they are a major tourist attraction and can become busy at certain times of the day. Best to get there before 10.00 and enjoy these stunning formations in relative privacy.

The wreck of the Rhone is what remains of the postal ship RMS Rhone that sank off Salt Island in 1867. Sport Diver magazine voted it #1. Wreck in the Caribbean and it is a must-see for the keen diver or snorkeler. As well as being able to see parts of the ship that have remained intact, you can also see some fascinating marine life, including eels and octopuses, that have taken up residence in the old wreck.

Sandy Spit island near Jost Van Dyke is the archetypal desert island paradise. Encircled by pristine white sandy beaches, it is easily one of the best places to moor for the day and chill out. Snorkelers can explore the stunning coral just off the island, and beach bums can simply relax on that picture-perfect beach. It is a national park, so visitors must remember to treat the island environment with respect.

Jost Van Dyke's bubbly pool is a naturally formed tidal pool nestling behind cliffs facing the open sea. It gets it's name from the way in which waves approach the pool, as if to engulf it, but are broken by the rocks to form a bubbly 'natural jacuzzi' that is tremendous fun to experience. It is a little off the beaten track on the east end of the island, but is well-worth the short hike needed to get there.

The Indians are a series of jagged rocks near Norman Island, and are an unmissable spot for divers and snorkelers. They are home to just about every variety of marine life, with reef fish, crustaceans and jelly fish among the marine fauna to be seen. Particularly captivating is when the sun illuminates the vibrant colors of the reef. This sight alone ensures the Indians are considered one of the best diving spots in the entire region.

A major draw for foodies is the group of islands known as Anegada. Home to the best lobster restaurants in the region, it is an essential stopover for lovers of this tasty crustacean. Here, the lobsters are freshly caught, then grilled in aluminum foil to produce a beautifully succulent dish.

Being in the Caribbean, there is of course plenty of rum on offer, too. BVI yacht charters are an amazing way to see these attractions, and much more. With the luxury and freedom offered by a modern boat, there is perhaps no better way to savour the unique delights of these quintessentially Caribbean islands.
