Staying At Watch Hill Beach RI

Visitors and locals alike have been enjoying the spectacular natural beauty of Watch Hill Beach RI for generations. This wonderful area is located only eighty miles south of Boston which makes it perfect for a day out. Of course, many people like to stay for much longer to enjoy not just the sand and surf but also the many attractions the area has to offer.

The beaches are located at the very end of an awe inspiring peninsula. The views out over Block Island Sound are inspiring to artists and visitors alike. This south west corner of Washington County Rhode Island is also conveniently close to other big attractions like Mystic Seaport. Many visitors arrive each year from Boston, which is only around eighty miles to the north.

People today are drawn to the area because of the diversity of things to do. Families love the miles of pristine sand and wonderful waters. The kids can easily spend a day playing in the water and building sand castles. Parents and grandparents can relax and enjoy themselves knowing the little ones are having the time of their lives. For those looking for a little more action there is plenty to keep them busy.

Seafood lovers will really think they are in heaven on a visit to this delightful corner of Rhode Island. Washington County is well known for its fresh lobster and other sea food delicacies. The local restaurants do an excellent job of preparing the fresh fish and many people take advantage of outdoor dining in the spring and summer. There is just nothing to compare to tucking into a delicious meal whilst enjoying the twinkling of the sun on the water and the smell of the ocean nearby.

The area is also a sailors paradise. There are many local marinas that offer charter sails for everyone. Those with children along may want to go out whale watching. More experienced sailors will love to get out on the water for a day under sail. There are evening cruises under the stars, complete with champagne and chocolates for the most romantic of couples. Kayaks are also available to rent for full or half day outings to explore the many coves and bays along the coast line.

The area around Watch Hill Beach was first developed as a resort in the early twentieth century. People from Boston and New York were looking for places to go to beat the summer heat and humidity. At this time many grand hotels and friendly guest houses were build. Many of them remain in business today, some are even run by the original families. Guests are sure of a warm welcome and every step is taken to ensure that their stay is perfect.

Shopping is a big part of any vacation and Watch Hill has plenty to offer. There are some wonderful local stores selling unique crafts made by local artisans. Everywhere the ocean theme is represented in everything from artwork to ornaments.

During the months of July and August the Watch Hill Beach RI area plays host to many special events. There are concerts, art festivals, lobster suppers and much more. Visitors should check in with the local tourist information office to find out what is going on whilst they are staying.
