Belize Is A Superb Scuba Diving As Well As Adventure Travel Destination

By Linda Patterson

Have you heard of the place called Belize? If you do not know then you are not alone; in fact there are loads of people who are not aware of this little tiny Central American country sandwiched between the western Caribbean Sea, Mexico and Guatemala.

Belize is a place where the ancient Mayan civilization flourished ages ago. This little country is blessed with rich natural resources. Being a lesser known country is a blessing as it had helped in the preservation of its environment. In case you are up for some adventures then Belize tours can take you to an exciting outdoor adventure travel.

The coast is lined with a number of picturesque resorts and off the shore are many islands which are called cays. Among these are the Ambergris Caye which is well known but when you're searching for a less populated and not too modern setting then it is Caye Caulker that you should visit. Besides a countryside atmosphere, this atoll is nearby numerous diving as well as snorkeling sites.

The Great Blue Hole is amongst the famous diving sites that have earned popularity all over the world. This can be included in your Belize scuba diving tour package.

Have you figured out where the Great Blue Hole has come from? It's a result of a process which was triggered 15,000 years ago during the Ice Age, when the level of sea-water dropped dramatically as a result showing the limestone under. A significant amount of limestone eroded when the fresh water poured in gradually and then formed underwater caverns. For countless years, there was a solid roof that supports a hollow network below and when it could not any longer hold, it crumbled leaving a massive sinkhole. This hole is very deep hence exploring it is really a challenge. The depth of this hole is bottomless that is why you will need an experienced diving instructor behind.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Tres Cocos (meaning 3 coconuts) are the other well known sites for scuba diving. Hol Chan is a marine reserve and it means 'little channel' which was created in 1987 and it houses a variety of corals and marine life such as stingrays and nurse sharks.

With a guided Belize travel package you can experience scuba diving in the Punta Arena Canyons. Also called 'Small Cut', this diving destination consists of two canyons which can be reached through a triangular entrance. The diving experience is indeed memorable as well as enriching owing to the amazing marine life variety.

Don't miss to check out the Booby birds that are dwelling in the Zircote forest on Half Moon Caye when you are on land. From the 3 Booby bird species which exist in Belize, this island is where you can find the white variety that has unique black markings on its wings. If you are in the observation tower, you will get to see these birds swooping for fish as well as get a glimpse of their light blue egg that are nestled among the orange flowers of the Zircote thicket.

Do you have some time left? If so, it is the best time to take this opportunity to meet and greet the ethnic inhabitants, or catch your own fish or simply take a walk along the lovely beach. At your vacation's end, you will surely be missing and wanting to return to Belize.
