The Functionality of Metal Detectors as a Safety Measure

By Carry Wilson

For sure none of us havent passed into a metal detector- may it be on shopping centers, malls or in airport. The used of detectors would be to make certain that everyone that have entered the area are safe and walking through one can remove all anxiety about security. Putting it simple, metal detectors are key to make people comfortable for they will feel safe.

Through these detectors we could feel security in public places such as schools, airport, office buildings and other locations where they are set up. Individuals who make use of them can find ease in controlling the entrance of the people. There are various types and models of metal detectors, but the most commonly utilized are the hand held models and walk through models. Through the help of a hand held detector, security personnel could physically detect if someone carries a metallic object. Conversely, walk-through metal detectors could detect much faster and automatically prompt the security personnel when metallic objects like weapons and knives are being recognized. You may ask how do metal detectors function? These security systems use the principles of electromagnetic induction that is why they can detect any metallic objects. When metallic objects are recognized there will be a beep alarm sound to notify the detection.

An alarm sets off with a single beep whenever something metallic is detected. Although it seems like the mechanism of the detector device is easy but it actually entails intricate principle of electromagnetic induction in order for any types of metallic objects to be detected.

Therefore, to notify security staff when metal is detected, it makes a simple beep sound that will quickly switch off. You could say that the metal detector is just an ingenious creation. By utilizing the principles of electromagnetic induction, every detector can effectively identify all metallic things.

There isn't really a need for something to go through metal detectors in order for them to function. That's because criminals will typically think twice with regards to trying to get into a building that's detection devices at the entrance.

Also with the medical development we have today, there are medical ways that involve certain metals being attached to an individual. There are times whena metal detector beeps off when an individual passing through had been surgically installed with a metal on any part of his or her body. Quite often as these individuals pass through the detectors, security personnel can recognize instantly that the metal object is not something that could cause harm and he will just turn off the alarm right away.

As what have been explained in the earlier part, these metal detectors create electromagnetic fields. This could cause electrical interference to electronic devices that one person might have in its possession. Among the medical devices that could be affected are pacemakers. There are those metal detectors that have high electromagnetic field which could pose a threat to people using pacemakers. In instances like these, these detectors can be fatal to those people using such device so it should be important to avoid such detectors.

There are also cases where the detector beeps if the person passing through is wearing some type of watch, jewelry, phones, loose change and others that causes false alarms. This can make some people feel embarrassed and can cause panic for no reason. The false alarm can cause troublesome circumstances not only for the individual to whom the alarm turned on but also to the on duty security personnel.
