Staying In An Anchorage Hostel Saves You Money

By Sharlene Fleming

A great way to get to see the great state of Alaska and not go broke is to stay at an Anchorage hostel when in the area. Backpacking across the tundra is considered to be the latest cool thing to do for anyone who does not want to do it across Europe. When you need shelter, avoid high-priced hotels this way.

Staying in hostels is something many people enjoy. It gives them more money for other things but also introduces them to a wide range of people and cultures. It is a precursor to staying in the dorms or living with friends while in school. This may be the first time you have to live with people who are not family.

You will have a bed. The room will have anywhere from 4 to 8 beds in it. Some hostels will have rooms that are gender specific but most will not. Consider it a big sleep over. The only drawback is if you are a light sleeper and go to bed early. Odds are pretty good people will be up and making noise well into the night.

One of the best parts about staying at one, besides the low price, is meeting people from different countries and cultures. Most are willing to share food and stories. You will probably get a chance to eat foods you would not normally and hear about real life in foreign places. You will learn about life and people in a way many will never have the chance to.

Be aware that the temperature and lack of sunlight can keep you indoors more than normal. You may have to spend considerable time with your house mates. It is possible you will get to know each other enough to decide to continue on your travels together. By the end of your journey, you may have enough in your group to fill many rooms.

When you get along with the other people in your room, you can share things. You can even go out and get jobs together to have more money. Be open to new foods and be friendly enough to share what you have. Everyone working together to make things fun and easy will make your entire trip more comfortable.

Staying in a hostel is not only for young people. It is a good thing for families too. Young kids and teens will have others to hang out and play with while adults will also have others to socialize with. If you are traveling with a group, it is the perfect way to save money on shelter so you have more for activities and different sites.

Staying in an Anchorage hostel can be a very rewarding experience. You will not only be given the opportunity to learn about others, but it will save you enough money to be able to do the extra things on your trip. The people you meet could end up inviting you to their home for a vacation. It would be nice for you to invite them to yours too. Share and learn, be open and considerate, it is a great thing to teach your children and a good lesson for yourself.
