Texas: Why It's A Great Place To Live

By Pammy McGrath

Every year, more and more people are moving to Texas and it's not hard to figure out why. As the second largest state in area, Texas has something to satisfy just about any sensibility. If you are wondering why Texas is one of the fastest growing states, read on and you will discover some great reasons to relocate to the Lone Star State.

As they say, the only certainties in life are death and taxes. However, Texas residents at least do not have to pay state income tax which can be a great way to increase your disposable income, save for retirement or bulk up that college fund. It's true that there are still property taxes and sales taxes to be paid, but most states levy income tax, sales tax and property tax, so why not eliminate at least one of these irksome payments?

Education is a big priority in Texas and there are many excellent universities and trade schools throughout the state, offering degrees in everything from astrophysics to zoology and everything in between. Texas public elementary, middle and high schools serve nearly five million children every year and Texas has more high school students that qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program than any other state in the nation.

Sports entertainment abounds throughout Texas, and every city has something to offer. Texas has two NFL teams, two Major League baseball teams, three NBA teams, two WNBA teams, an NHL team and two Major League soccer teams. This is not to mention a host of minor league teams and tons of collegiate and high school sports to enjoy.

Each city and region of Texas is a little bit different, and while it's fun to visit them all, Texas Hill Country is one of the most popular. The scenery and geography is quite unique and the area is home to colorful lavender farms, vineyards, tons of outdoor activities and small towns that offer fun festivals, quirky shops and galleries, historic sites and much more. Austin and San Antonio also are located at the edge of Texas Hill Country and there is certainly is no end of fun things to do in these two cities.
