More Than Enough Reasons To Book Haida Gwaii Accommodations

By Karina Frost

There are probably a lot of places where you would like to go on your next or your first out of the country vacation. Most of the places that you might have in mind are those that you usually see in TV or read in the magazines. But sometimes, the most exquisite place are those that you do not usually hear people talk about. One good example is the Haida Gwaii Islands that would surely offer you a nice nature trip.

This archipelago which is located in British, Columbia is one of the places that not all people would know. It is sometimes call the Queen Charlotte Islands or just simply Charlottes. It is divided in to three. One is north towards Alaska by the Dixon Entrance, to the east is the mainland separated by the Hectate Strait and to the south is Vancouver Island beyond the Queen Charlotte Sound. There might be a lot of countries owning the island. All the more reason to call for Haida Gwaii accommodations now.

Gwaii Haanas Natural Reserve Park is the biggest, literally, attraction in the Charlottes. It is a vast forest area that protects wild life and extinct animals like the black bear. It is properly situated in the southern part and is well protected by authorities. Once you are inside the park, you will know for sure why there is a need to protect this place.

Another site that is worth the visit are the long houses that are also located in the natural reserve. The houses are more or less a thousand years old and depicts the unique structure of the buildings in Haida before. You will also witness some of the customs that some of the Haidans still practice till today.

One of the most recommended places to go to is the cliff that is in Naikoon Provincial Park. The cliff stands 400 feet tall and was formed when there was a volcanic eruption a million years ago. What adds appeal to this is the blowhole that surges mist every few seconds due to ocean waves. If you are looking to have the typical beach experience, there is no need for you to look further because the North Beach that is located in the same park will give you a great time.

The Charlottes does not only boast of forest wildlife but marine life as well. You will enjoy whale watching when spring comes. Hundreds of humpbacks and orcas will greet you and your family.

The fine arts teaching centre that is located within the Haida Heritage Centre is something to visit. You can see students while they carve canoes and even totem poles. The place also offers performances about Haidans tradition.

One of the more unusual places in the Charlottes is the Haida Gwaii Museum. Unusual in the sense that it is not just a museum. It also served as the burial ground of their ancestors many years ago. Although the museum can fill your eyes with the rich culture of the place through the artifacts in the museum, still knowing that there are several dead people on the ground that you are stepping on kind of adds to the thrill of the trip.

Despite not being famous as the other places in the world, the Charlottes would surely give you memories that you can cherish forever. It will also teach you some of life lessons that you would do well to remember. One of this is that you should take care of nature and in return it will give your eyes a sight to behold.
