I know you've seen this line on postcards: "Having a wonderful time-wish you were here!" This is so true, doesn't matter how corny is sounds, we are having such a fantastic time here in Key West, Florida, instead of just sending a post card, thought I would write you a letter while I'm soaking up the rays, laying on the beach, relaxing underneath the palm trees.
Once we got checked into our resort, we immediately went off to explore the island! So much to see! Lets see where do I begin! We of course wandered down Duval Street, did a little souvenir shopping, checked out the famous bars; Sloppy Joe's, Margaritaville, Pat Croce's Rum Barrel, Captain Tony's, ate some fantastic food at Pier House Resort's Harborview Cafe while watching the sail boats start out for sunset celebration. Speaking of such, we ventured over to Mallory Square for the daily festivies and saw some of the most creative street performers we have ever seen. Did I mention "Cat Man"? How on earth did he train those cats to do those tricks? I can't even get mine to come when I call, all it does is just look at me and meow! It was an amazing sunset, so beautiful, and I can't wait to do it all again tomorrow! They say down here every sunset is different, so we definitely have something to look forward to! Lets see tomorrow, think we'll go fishing or snorkeling, as there are so many of the fishing charters and catamarans that offer trips on a daily basis! All we have to do is show up! They provide everything we need, and some of them even supply lunch, and drinks! and for the evening, might even catch one of those schooners and do the romantic sunset sail! Everything is so reasonably priced!
Did I tell you about all the museums and tours? Well we are definitely going to see Mel Fisher's Museum, and check out all the treasures he found on the Atocha, then there is the Hemingway House museum with all those "six toed cats". Right across the street from Hemingway's House is the Lighthouse Museum, wonder if I can climb to the top of the Lighthouse, um, 88 steps up and 88 steps down, but I'm sure its such a beautiful view from up there! The Southernmost House Museum, heard it was a guesthouse too! We might even take in the tour of the island on the Old Town Trolley, we heard it was very informative! I'm sure we'll even go over and see the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, perhaps tomorrow we can head over to the Ship Wreckers Historium and yell "Wreck Ashore!" as was heard in the past, when the salvage hunts would begin!, and before we leave the island, We want to go over to Fort Jefferson Dry Tortugas for the day.
The beach here is so beautiful! What a place to relax and unwind! There is a breeze coming off the water, its so peaceful, and there's a few sunbathers out on the beach, like I am, relaxing and soaking up the rays. Looking around, I see something I have never seen on the beach before: what a wonderful idea, a wedding is taking place right here on the beach, a small group of people just walked out to the waters edge, I see the groom, and friends and family, and here comes a beautiful bride dressed in a perfect dress for the beach, she's being escorted down to the groom, everyone is gathering close to hear the ceremony, and there is a photographer and a videographer capturing this wonderful event! Just them, the water as a backdrop, barefooted on the beach, how happy they look, its as if they are the only people on the beach!, and there's the kiss to seal the union! Hugs and congrats, photos and video! An excellent idea, to combine a ceremony and honeymoon in a destination beach wedding! They'll probably go to one of those really nice restaurants to celebrate! Maybe Michael's, A&B Lobster House, The Commodore, or even Louie's Backyard! For the celebratory desert, definitely Key Lime Pie!
Well, now that I've totally relaxed, its time for me to put this letter to rest, roll over and drift off in a dream while working on my tan on the other side. Yes, I'm in Paradise, this wonderful place, Key West Florida, I'll send this letter off to you later today, along with some photos, so you can see what I've been talking about, take care and we'll see you soon!
