Easy Self Guided NYC Tours

Before the five boroughs came together, they were five individual cities. New York City, also called the Greater New York, has been a melting pot for all nationalities since the early 19th century. While on vacation, self guided NYC tours will allow individuals and groups to explore the area at their pace.

Once known as Greater New York, New York City is composed of five independent boroughs. Within the first half of the century, this city became the home of many immigrants seeking a better life. Since then, the area has become a world trade center for commerce, communication and industry.

The type of tour a person takes depends on their preference. Those who are looking for an active nightlife should visit Times Square in the evening. On this mile long stretch, the avid socialite will enjoy the vast selection of clubs, bars and restaurants.

Often visited by celebrities and other important people, the list of bars includes one with a swimming pool, a revolving lounge with overlooks Times Square as well as a legendary blues club. Times Square is also home to a Moulin Rouge style show. The Upper East Side provides visitors with a high concentration of Irish Pubs. At the various pubs, tourist will discover an all night Mardi gras party as well as lots of TVs and lots of beer.

Times Square is a major point of interest for Natives as well as tourists. In addition to being the filming location for ABC's Good Morning America and the MTV headquarters, Times Square is the location of the nation's largest entertainment store and the world's largest toy store. Whether the person is a child or young at heart, he or she will enjoy the Build a Bear workshop and the American Girl Store. This is also the location for the New Year's Eve Ball drop and an entire store dedicated to video games and Pokemon.

In the financial district, access to the nation's largest gold repository is available inside of the Federal Reserve Bank. Stretching just over a mile, other attractions in this area includes Wall Street, the New York Stock Exchange as well as Ground Zero. This was the site of the World Trade Centers. At one time Ellis Island was the central location for immigrants entering the country. Along this district, tourists will visit the Skyscraper Museum, Battery Park, the Jewish Heritage Museum and the World Financial Center.

The southern end of the Manhattan financial district is at the edge of the Brooklyn Bridge. The Police Museum, City Hall and other hidden gems are located in that part of the city. Fraunces Tavern is the site where the nation's first president said farewell to his troops. Historians, art lovers as well as theater goers will enjoy browsing the local museums. The area is home to some of the most expensive paintings in the world.
