Kicking Up Your Fun Level With Funny Irish Drinking T-Shirts

By Francis Whitman

For many years, I have been celebrating the tradition of drinking heavily and spending time with my friends on St. Patty's Day. What I have not celebrated is the way people dress and behave on that night. It wasn't until I let my proverbial hair down and wore my own funny Irish drinking t-shirts, that I realized that I have been doing it wrong this whole time.

Most of my dissatisfaction with the way people dress and act on St. Patty's Day stemmed from the fact that I am actually very Irish. I appreciate my Irish heritage deeply and when I see non-Irish acting out in such a crazed way as they do on a holiday reserved for honoring my traditions, I feel a bit disrespected. Not wearing funny Irish drinking t-shirts was my little way of protesting against that disrespect.

One of my friends managed to get me drunk enough before we headed to the bar last year to put on one of his funny Irish drinking t-shirts. Even though I was totally smashed before we ever set foot out of the door, I was already determined that this whole t-shirt business was a terrible idea.

I am very pleased to say, however, that wearing funny Irish drinking t-shirts to the bar on Saint Patrick's Day makes everything so much more fun! There is a sense of camaraderie that you feel when you throw yourself head-first into a celebration like that, let go of your inhibitions, and let yourself have an awesome time. I had so many drinks bought for me that I probably should have just packed it up and went home way sooner than I did.

Last St. Paddy's Day was an absolute blast, and I have my friend who bought me the funny Irish drinking t-shirts to thank for it. I would never have worn one of those shirts on my own. In retrospect, I think he may have known that all along. He wanted me to have as much fun as everyone else, and he wanted me to peel myself away from the wall and join the party. He succeeded in his mission, and I won't party on St. Paddy's Day without an Irish shirt again!
