Flavors You Can Have in Hookah

By John McCree

Trying to find the perfect shisha flavor for you? Read along to learn how you can get a superb shisha flavor that fits your taste.

Hookahs are used to smoke flavorful tobacco, most commonly known as "shisha". The modern day shisha consists of all or some of the following things:

1. Tobacco

2. Treacle (uncrystallized syrup produced in refining sugar)

3. Honey

4. Sugar

5. Molasses

6. Glycerin

7. Nicotine

8. Dried Fruit

9. Distilled Water

The hookah smokers prefer the typical fruity flavors like apple, banana or mango. However, there are a lot of new and creative flavors available in the market like Starbuzz's "Blue Mist". The vast majority of new flavors have a fruit flavor as the base. For instance, Blueberry Muffin or Pink Lemonade clearly have their roots in a fruity base.

Shisha flavors have become versatile because of the relative simpleness of flavoring in the course of manufacturing. The dried tobacco, glycerin, and sweetener can be combined with essentially any other ingredients to make different flavors.

Social Smoking

Hookah is generally shared in a social environment where the smokers may gather for pleasant discussion and to enjoy the aroma produced by the flavored shisha smoke. Once hookah became popular in the Middle Eastern nations, every single social establishment started serving hookahs. These days, you'll find hookahs even in the houses of many people.

The smoke from shisha has a calming effect on the smoker, which is one of the main factors why it became popular swiftly. As a contrast to cigarettes, hookah smoking is done more as a social pursuit and for the flavor, instead of for any type of biological affect. Whereas cigarettes give more of a "quick fix" having a strong dose of nicotine and a normally disagreeable smell, a flavorful hookah session may last one hour or longer, and shisha does not have near the addictive qualities as cigarettes.

Getting the Most Flavor from Your Hookah

No rocket science here, but some good common sense and discipline can go a long way in getting the most from your hookah. The first and most critical thing is to clean your device regularly. You need to wash your hookah thoroughly with warm water after every use.

About specific tactics, it's critical to prevent the charcoal from burning up the tobacco mid-session. Prepare the bowl so as to prevent the tobacco from becoming stuck to the foil or screen; in fact, try not to let the tobacco to touch the foil at all. When you are packing the bowl, be sure the tobacco is at least a few millimeters below the rim of the bowl. Then, when you wrap the foil taught around the head, you'll obviously have the desired amount of space needed to prevent the dreaded burn. Placing two toothpicks over the tobacco in a cross is a good way to prevent the foil from touching the tobacco. Also, while "packing" the bowl, don't pack the tobacco down tightly. Instead, loosely pile it into a fine mound allowing the air to flow through the mound. This will also stop the tobacco from burning as quickly, and it will require less suction on the hose to get a nice, full flavorful hit. If desired you may even use two sheets of foil to help prevent against overheating. The specific game here is: KEEP IT CLEAN AND DON'T BURN THE SHISHA!
