By Tammie Caldwell

Today's tourists expect more from their trips for many reasons. For one thing, the Internet has opened their eyes to a world of beauty that extends far beyond what could be offered by a drive. With so much information readily available, people want to get there and see it with their own eyes. As such, find memorable Antarctic cruises from Ushuaia, Argentina that will leave people in awe.

While there are many beautiful destinations in the world, there are few that can offer this much. Bounded by the Beagle Channel to the south, and a beautiful mountain range to the north, it is known as the world's southernmost city. It's situated on a wide bay, where many cruises begin and end.

While the city is situated so close to the Antarctic, it's winters are not particularly cold. It's warmest month is January and its coldest is July, and is known to be quite humid. It's summers are often cloudy and windy, and in wintertime, it experiences frequent snowfalls and rain showers.

As for daylight, its southern latitude certainly plays a role, varying it significantly between summer and winter. There are about 17 hours of daylight during the summer, while only about seven hours during winter. Aside from that, it has become a major tourist destination because of all that it offers, and because it is a commercial port for cruising.

There are cruises that take them to numerous Antarctic islands, like the South Shetland Islands and the South Sandwich Islands. The port is also synonymous with scientific expeditions as well. This commercial pier is the point of departure for these and vacation cruises such as to the Falkland Islands.

Back in the 1800s, this was actually a penal colony that was intended for real offenders and dangerous offenders. Over time, it has closed its prison, and now has become a major destination with regards to tourism. The prison has become a museum. Visitors can visit not only the museum, but also taken all its natural beauty, from its most memorable sunsets to its majestic glaciers and forests.

While this is the place where one's trip can begin, it will be one that will bring memories that last a lifetime. It goes far beyond any expectations tourists may have. While the cruise ships are loaded with all the latest amenities and are treated to exceptional service, the places they visit are priceless they are loaded with impressive wildlife, possibly filled with thousands of penguins, and icebergs of every form.

Travel enthusiasts that have visited the Caribbean should know that it's nothing like that at all. For one thing, the itinerary is based upon the weather conditions. Sometimes, things can get choppy and alternative destinations are necessary. For the most part, there are calmer destinations like the Antarctic Peninsula and Hope Bay. Furthermore, people need to pack properly for such a vacation. First off, they need to be dressed in a waterproof clothing, almost from head to toe, and they must pack at least a couple of pairs of thermal underwear.
