How To Make The Most Of Your Spiritual Journeys

By Winifred Christensen

Going to a holy place is a good plan. With the higher number of holy places such as temples being opened to the public these days, a lot of people are going for spiritual journeys to cleanse their spirit and be one with their inner self. If you are one of the people who are interested in this, then here are the tips you should take note of.

First, pay attention to the temple offerings. It would be good for you to have an idea on what the best temple offering would be for that holy place or what possible choices you have. Simple offerings can be flowers or garlands. More extravagant ones like money or milk can also be given to the temple as an offering.

There are holy places that will require their visitors to leave their sandals and shoes before entering the temple. There are a lot of such holy places these days. Since the holy place that you are going might require you to do so, it would be good for you to find a footwear that you can easily remove. Avoid wearing footwear with heels too.

While there are holy places which are truly serene and quiet, there are also temple that are very loud and chaotic. For the latter, it might be because of the loud bells, babies crying, or people screaming. In such places, it is highly recommended that you bring and wear ear plugs. It helps dampen the noise and makes it easier to connect to your spirituality.

Mediate in the temple properly. When it comes to mediating, there is no need to force yourself to be in the middle of this temple or right at the front when these places are too noisy for you to keep to yourself. To mediate properly, you need to find a quiet corner or comfortable spot to stay in where you are not disturbed.

Better look inward. The experience you have at the temple should be as inward as possible. You should not pay attention to the chaos surrounding you or the people pushing. These are distractions but do not get distracted. You can keep your eyes close and keep quiet so that you do not get distracted.

Wear proper clothes for this temple visit. Wearing proper clothes does not mean you should find trendy ones or even celebrity-style ones. Even if you are a tourist, you must wear the traditional and clean clothes for the temple visit. They should be suitable and comfortable for the visiting journey to the temple.

For those people visiting a temple for the first time, you have to get yourself a copy of this temple's guide. It is through the guide that you can allow yourself to have an understanding of the temple's history. You can skip on long lines for this as well. Special features regarding the temple might be known to you as well.

You have to prepare the accommodation beforehand. If you can, you should pick your accommodation according to how close it is to the temple. The closer, the better. If you are temporarily staying at a hotel near the temple, you can get to experience around-the-clock spiritual aura. That would be good for your journey.
