Top Considerations When Whale Watching

By Claudine Hodges

The thought of being able to watch whales as they show their grace in diving can be fun. But if you do not prepare well, you may end up ruining the ideal experience. Therefore, if you want to get the best possible experience from the activity, you have to prepare.

There could be several tips to keep in mind during the preparation. The area by which you decide to do the watching can be a very important factor. So selecting the recommended places to do it such as that of the popular Juneau Alaska whale watching matters. Today, we will take a look at some of the things you can include on your preparation.

One, is the place. Not all bodies of water are best regarded for their popularity in whale sightings. Whales, like any other sea creatures also have their own type of living condition. Meaning, they may not be compatible at certain areas. If you have a friend who have tried the activity before, a suggestion of a place will be a great help.

Two, are the kind of foods you will have to bring. You cannot afford to be hungry while on the waters. You do not know when whales will show up, and you want to be at your best the moment they do. Bring snacks or packed meals depending on the time and the preference of your family.

Three, is the weather condition. There are mobile apps at present that tells you about the condition of a certain area. Another option would be news forecast which you can now access online. A rough weather might be your preference for adventure but if the weather is not really that good, administrators of the whale watching service might not allow you to go out.

Four is your cameras. You could not miss this great opportunity to make memories. Have your camcorders and phones ready the night before by charging them up. Bring spare ones if you have to. You might not get a second shot on this one so make sure you have with you a good camera capable of capturing swift movements.

Fifth, dress right. The temperature on the sea can be colder and hotter than on land so be sure youready yourself by wearing the right attire. Bring extra clothing just to be sure and do not forget your sunscreen and lotion. If you plan on wearing hat, ensure that you can attach it below your chin to prevent it from getting carried away by the strong wind.

Sixth, hope for the best but do not fret for the unexpected. While we enjoy the idea of getting those great photos of jumping whales just like what we see on magazines, there is a possibility that your trip might not yield the satisfaction that you hope for. There will be times when whales just do not feel like showing themselves. If what you are looking for are choreographed movements of dolphins or whales hopping from a point to another, then the best area for this might be on the aquarium or at a marine park.

Preparation is the secret to a great experience. Be sure you are well prepared for the activity. Create your own list and check if you forget anything. Better be prepared now than sorry later.
