Which swimwear will you choose this year?

By James Drone

In 2012, fashionable ladies swimwear will be reflecting the trends that have influenced the wider world of fashion. Ladies can choose from vintage-style swimwear inspired by the fifties or go for the frills that have been seen in abundance on the catwalks. Whatever style you go for, you will still need to choose the best type of swim suit to suit your shape and your tastes.

One-piece swimsuits are a failsafe option, flattering and supporting the body and providing a more practical option for those who actually want to swim! The midriff is kept under wraps, which can be a much more comfortable option for some women, although this does not have to mean that it has to be a boring option. Cuts can vary, as can the number of straps, and many swim suits now also have cut-outs that reveal flesh without giving too much away.

Bikinis are perhaps the most popular choice of swimwear for many women, and yet it has only been around since the mid-twentieth century. Before then, it was considered scandalous to reveal the flesh of the midriff as the bikini does. There are now countless styles and variations of the bikini, including bandeau tops, halter-neck tops and underwired cups, which allow women to choose a style that flatters their figure as well as revealing it.

Tankinis are a relatively recent addition to the range of ladies swimwear available. Half-way between underwear and swimwear, the tankini consists of a pair of bikini bottoms or shorts worn with a tank or vest top that covers most of the midriff, revealing just the navel. The tankini can offer a stylish alternative to the cut out swimsuit that sits between the one and two-piece swimsuit.

Whatever choice, women make, it is important to choose swimwear that allows the wearer to feel comfortable and at ease. If you are heading to the beach or the pool this summer, you are likely to be spending a lot of time in your chosen swimwear, which means it is essential to get it right unless you want to be hiding under a beach towel for a couple of weeks!
