The Role Of Flights In Modern Transport

By Lonnie Nuckols

One of the most influential inventions ever made by man is the flight industry. This multi billion dollar industry has many players right from the manufacturers to the airlines and individuals who actually own the planes. Many airlines will offer various flights services to their customers with the help of purchased or hired aircraft.

While the earliest usage of aircraft was a preserve of the warring forces of the world war era, today various groups of professionals are reliant on aviation. Large police departments keep a helicopter handy for transporting dignitaries or aerial patrol of their territory. This maneuverable aircraft also features on the must have list for the lifeguards along the coats lines and firefighters working in the plains.

Private jetliners are popular among executives and public figures for various reasons. This is because they offer quality in flight services as well as enabling them to maintain a low profile while moving around. Since they can land on private airstrips, this means that their clients are spared the pains of clearance at most major international airports.

A discussion on aviation would be incomplete without a mention of the in flight entertainment systems that are a standard feature of most passenger liners. Flights in the past were a lengthy ordeal, with passengers passing time chatting or gazing out the windows. At some point, aircraft was required to be fitted with motion picture machinery for entertainment purposes.

These were closely followed by in seat audio systems that conveyed sound to individual passengers through headphones. The earliest earpieces were a simple affair, consisting of hollow tubes that terminated in a single assembly fitted on the ears. The early eighties signaled the demise of projector pictures and pneumatic sound systems with the beginning of the electronic revolution. CRT displays replaced the conventional screen with the passenger cabin fitted with various displays and electronic headphones.

All airlines have to subject their aircraft to regular tests by authorized bodies to safeguard the well being of their customers. As a rule, an in flight entertainment system must not expose occupants to any form of risk. This is the reason behind a directive that this system be powered independently from the rest of the plane.

The aviation industry experiences growth of a baffling scale. Today, there are operators conducting flights for mail and cargo delivery besides the conventional passenger services. Any interested entrepreneurs must obtain an air operating certificate before getting the green light to launch operations. Alliances among airlines are a common sight to reap the benefits of solidarity.
