How To Take Care Of Houseboat Toilet

By Martha Gray

Sanitation is very important despite the environment it is on so as to avoid health hazards. People who own boats should register with sanitation companies such that they are aware of when and where to dispose of the waste. Houseboat toilet should be aware that they can discharge waste through the toilets or through emptying tanks that hold the waste however discharging sewage is illegal.

Sanitation companies and sewage treatment companies monitor waste disposal on the seashore such that there are no major health hazards for the people who live along the coast region who even depend on fishing as a staple food. Therefore, there should be proper waste disposal methods that should be let known to boat users depending on the length that they stay on the water.

Some of the methods that boat users use for waste disposal are the portable toilets which usually are appropriate for the clients who spend a short time on the sea side. Portable toilets are a cheap method which ensures that there are no extra charges on plumbing and it ensures that issues of clogging are non-existent. There is a cheap method to maintain the toilets since chemicals can be used to avoid odor.

Depending on the sanitation regulations then the boat owners should use the most appropriate method of waste disposal since discharging sewage into the sea is considered illegal but with limits of a certain miles that they can dispose the waste. If there is provision of facilities that can safely pump out these waste, then a self-discharge holding tank is advised.

Holding tanks are where waste is pumped into before discharge. However, the waste can be disposed of overboard when it is legal or it is most appropriate to do so. For the comfort of everyone on board, there should be a holding tank with multiple discharge options such that issues of clogging are done for. Therefore, there should be the provision of a y-valve that helps to take of the issue of clogging.

Portable toilets are recommended for clients making a short trip on the shore since they are an inexpensive method of waste management as well as reduces the cost of having a plumber and issues of clogging and odour become irrelevant. However, if the waste accumulates, it should be retained until the boat gets to an onshore waste-disposal facility or a domestic latrine.

Toilets that are flushed with salty water develop scale deposits which could make flushing difficult. When calcium deposits also accumulate they could lead to the toilet blocking completely. Vinegar is the most suitable for the scale since it dissolves it.

A joker valve which points to the direction of flow should be large to avoid clogging and odor, a rebuilding kit should always be available since these toilets could need renovation regularly, the pump cylinder walls should be well lubricated and cleaned thoroughly, sealants on the gaskets should be used to prevent leakages.
