Most Famous Locations Noted For San Antonio Hauntings

By Elizabeth Price

There is hardly a person who has never heard a ghost story, with Hollywood releasing blockbuster movies out of age old folktales. Texas is among the most visited places in the United States for ghost sightings. The state is renowned for the San Antonio hauntings, with lots of tourists flocking the locality to personally witness many of the tales they have heard.

Alamo is by far the most discussed location in the city. Legend has it that shortly after the historical Battle of Alamo, the local residents started seeing reincarnations of the dead. Since then, the stories have kept piling up. Many of the residents regard it as the most haunted location in San Antonio.

There are a couple of presumably haunted hotels downtown as well. If you have a strong belief and interest in paranormal experiences, you should consider checking into a few of them during your visit. Some of the establishments noted for paranormal activity include the Menger, Emily Morgan, Crockett, St. Anthony and Sheraton Gunter hotels.

Among the popular inns within the city, the Holiday Inn Express holds the reputation of being the most morbid. A hair raising feeling of foreboding creeps in as you make your way to the reception. Before being turned into an accommodation establishment, it used to be the county jail.

A host of weird experiences have been reported by guests and staff. Once checked in and resting, one cannot shake off the morbid sense of being watched. Some of the frightening tales told involve windows and doors being opened and closed supernaturally. The installed CCTV cameras have also captured many unexplained apparitions.

The Spanish Governors Residence is another historically haunted site. Just staring at the building from the outside gives one the creeps. It has served many purposes since its construction. Besides being used as a military fortification during the Alamo Battle, it housed lots of shops and an execution arena.

Ghosts of young kids are believed to roam its outer sections and hallways. Rumor also has it that the spirit of a murder victim haunts the site. These rumors are a clear indication of the unshakable belief that human beings have in the afterlife. It is up to you to establish the veracity of these chilling tales.

Another noteworthy site is the San Fernando Cathedral. It is arguably one of the easiest landmarks to recognize in the city. Besides this, it is the oldest building around. Its Gothic architecture only adds to the eerie tales that surround it. Shadowy figures are rumored to routinely stalk lone worshipers. One even freaks out just imagining this.

One urban legend surrounds the local railroad tracks. The site of hauntings is located out along Shane Road. There are stories of ghosts pushing parked cars over to the tracks for the oncoming train. Some of the tales about this site also involve apparitions of ghostly children and nuns.

Finalize your visit with a tour of the derelict Midget Mansion. There is a dark history surrounding this 1920s building. Night screams often get reported by neighbors. Legend has it that it is a rituals site used by Satanists.
