Enjoy A Special Vacation With Fraser Valley Tours

By John Stewart

Retirees and the independently wealthy may get to travel all year long, but most people only have a few weeks a year to enjoy a vacation. Some will want to pack in as much activity as they can. They may spend their free time on the beach or enjoying theme rides at favorite amusement parks. For those who are looking for a relaxing, but fun, way to spend their leisure time, Fraser Valley tours may be the solution.

There are many sights to see and interesting things to do in this region of British Columbia. Some of the most stunning scenery is found in Cascade Falls Regional Park. The huge waterfall is the main attraction, but there are numerous other falls that are wonderful sights. Visitors to the falls will walk through a forest full of hemlock and cedar trees. The trail leading up to Cascade is fairly steep and can be muddy and slippery.

Fraser Canyon is another sight to behold. The Fraser River, with its strong current and fast moving water rushing between the canyon walls, creates spectacular scenery that is visible from the gondolas suspended over the river. This is the area early explorers dubbed "Hell's Gate". From the suspension bridge that spans the river, you can also observe the gorges that cut through the mountains.

Another unique canyon in the area is Coquihalla. Visitors love to tour the amazing Othello railroad tunnels located here. There are plenty of opportunities for bikers and hikers to enjoy day trips. The landscape is relatively flat here making walking easy. It is a great place to take the whole family. If you are lucky, you might get to see a film crew shooting a movie.

Westminster Abbey is a Benedictine monastery located in Mission. If you love history and architecture, you owe it to yourself to tour it. There are panoramic views of Fraser Valley that are breathtaking in addition to the abbey structures. Hours are limited though. The monks enjoy visitors, but hours of prayer, work, and meditation take up most of their time.

Fur trading was a huge part of this region's past, and historians will enjoying touring the Fort Langley historic area. Most of the buildings are not original, but the reconstruction is impeccably done and is extremely interesting. There are authentic replicas of the homes, shops and forges that were once inhabited by settlers.

While you are in Fort Langley, you should stop by the CN Station Museum. The station itself has a gallery where area artists exhibit their works. There is also a small museum in the old ticket office. You can board a nineteen twenties caboose complete with the original furnishings and check out the precursor to today's bicycle, the velocipede.

British Columbia is beautiful any time of the year. Each season has its own special charm, and the history of this area is fascinating.
