By Mark White

This involves activities such as racing, vaulting, and steeple chasing or while riding horses. The definition of the term horseback riding is broad due to the fact that horses have very many uses and purposes. They can be used in the transportation of goods and people, recreation security jobs, cultural practices and even sports such as horseback riding long island.

Horseback riding have been there since time memorial whereby it is dated several centuries back. It is estimated that these horses were ridden at 3500 BC through archeological evidence of teeth remains and other parts of the horses. This evidence shows that horses were used in war and in peaceful actions like agriculture and transport of people and goods.

A wider view gives us the significance of this exercise, beginning with job purposes. Police officers use horses when maintaining law and order in crowded areas like rallies, political gatherings or even riots due to their speed which make it possible to catch on with the fleeing rioting crowds. Both the horses and their riders are trained to ensure that they do their job professionally even in cases of severe unrest.

Secondly, horses ensured efficient movement of goods and people from one place to another due to their efficiency in terms of speed and ability to penetrate remote places that were deemed inaccessible like river banks, trenches, thickets and so on. Horses were the best means of transport when it came to migration, both rural to urban or urban to rural since they had the strength to pull the heavily loaded chariots. With horses, transportation was revolutionized since they ensured smooth movement.

Recreational activities also called for using horses. People would use horses for leisure purposes and these activities brought people together since everyone had one common goal for the day. People from different communities interacted well with each other in these activities hence bringing forth intermarriages and peace among them.

Culture is important in any given community since it guides the people to ensure that they maintain their moral standards and maintain good conduct amongst themselves. Horses played an important role in cultural activities like they transported mourners to funerals and also in weddings whereby they would pull chariots that carried the couple. In most instances, the horses pulled carriages mounted comfortably on their backs.

The other area of application of horseback riding is in horse racing, which has different categories including thoroughbred and steeple chasing. The commonest category of horse racing in the world is thoroughbred (its otherwise also known as flat racing), and one that is governed by The Jockey Club in the US. Steeple chasing (also referred to as the National Hunt Racing based in the UK) is also significant and it involves horse racing on flat open fields, in a ground where they can jump over several hurdles.

Horseback riding brings along more advantages due to its contribution to our day to day lives. People from all walks of life require training on horse handling so that they can have the necessary skills required to practice this art. Horse riding events bring about interactions that bring forth peace and cohesion among communities giving rise to the need of embracing horse riding activities for a better future.
