Preparing And Training For Kilimanjaro

For most mountain climbers, climbing the highest mountain in any continent is a must do. Before embarking on a climb, enough training for Kilimanjaro must be done. It happens to be the highest mountain in Africa and a great climbing destination. Adequate information about what is expected should be outsourced. This will ensure you are physically fit, mentally prepared and have a good idea of what to expect. There are some things to consider before booking the hike.

Do your homework. You should know which trail you are going to use. Some area more scenic, or shorter, or more difficult than others. Knowing the terrain and expected weather will help you pack the appropriate things. Consulting the tour company planning the hike, will also be necessary as they may have insights you cannot get online. If you know someone who has made the trip, talking to them may tell you about what to expect.

Physical fitness is one of the most important things to consider. Your body needs to be prepared for the climb. Exercise will need to be gradual, ensuring you do not push your body too far. You can start by hiking regularly or taking the stairs instead of elevators. Skiing and mountain biking, are also a good way to start. The aim is to create more muscle and strengthen the already existing muscle. Starting on a healthy diet will also be necessary.

Medical consultations are required before making the trip. Some medical conditions could worsen with the increasing altitude. Your doctor can also prescribe medication for problems associated with changing climate. If you have any conditions may hinder the climb, they can advise you on what to do or which medication to use. You will also require to be immunized and vaccinated before getting into Tanzania. Altitude sickness is one of the common problems that affects people going up. It may be caused by ascending too fast and not giving your body enough time to adjust. For some people it clears with time. In others they need to descend and get treated.

Mental preparation is also very necessary. It pays to be aware of the challenges you might face. Sudden changes in weather, exhaustion, eating in rations at only specific times and even people getting sick or injured, are just a few of the things that generally occur on hikes. Without adequate mental preparation, all this may weigh too heavily on you making the hike more tiring and stressful for you.

Different climates will require different gear. In most cases the tour company taken, will provide the gear required. In any case you should know the gear that will be used, how it works and how it will all fit into your luggage. The clothes are something you will need to buy yourself. They should be bought depending on the weather and terrain. Generally the tour company will give you the list of required clothing.

If you are travelling with people you know training with them will help to build teamwork. These are the people you will be stuck with for about a week. It helps if you know their personalities, strengths and weaknesses.

A valid visa, passport and resident permit will be needed to get into Tanzania. Documentation showing you have been immunized and vaccinated, will also be needed. In most cases you can buy insurance to cover the trip.
