Key West, Florida As A Romantic Wedding And Honeymoon Destination

By Peter Estenoz

Calling Key West a romantic wedding and honeymoon destination isn't just some kind of slogan or marketing pitch. A bare-foot sunset ceremony here with the white sand beach and turquoise water out front is achingly beautiful, and that's why so many wedding planners recommend it. However, there's a lot more to it that just this.

Key West is an island city in the Florida Keys with a wonderful tropical climate warmed by the Gulf Stream current. It is also very quaint, with a dated Spanish history that goes all the way back to 1521. Its American history is just as interesting, and visitors can walk in the footsteps of everyone from President Truman to Hemingway and Tennessee Williams.

Bare-foot nuptials on the beach are so popular here because of the unique combination of the beautiful beach, the timeless quality of the city and the popularity of its sunsets. In fact, they have an official 'Sunset Celebration' every evening at Mallory Square, where the Gulf of Mexico meets Duval Street. It's kind of like a carnival or street party that starts to come alive a few hours before sunset.

Apart from beach ceremonies, another popular choice is saying 'I Do' on a historic schooner or luxury yacht. Some also prefer to have the ceremony at one of the Victorian mansions or historic properties here like the Hemingway Home or Truman's Little White House. Many lush outdoor tropical gardens and luxury resort settings are also available for functions.

Given the large number of weddings that take place here every year, the facilities and arrangements are all very well developed. One phone call will set it in motion, and everything from the venue to a wedding planner, caterer, florist, photog and videographer can be instantly finalized. Shopping can, of course, be done on Duval St., but it might be better to hop over the short distance to Miami for this.

The planner should be able to arrange for the marriage application/license. Not to mention everything that concerns the hotel, including rooms for everyone, the ballroom and reception, and a honeymoon package deal. However, it's best for the bride and groom to be personally involved in these matters.

Inspite of all the modern facilities and arrangements that are available, the city still retains a charming old world feel to it. The combination of natural beauty, historic setting and steamy climate makes it the dream that every wedding aspires to be. The summary of it is that very few other cities can even come close to the romantic wedding and honeymoon destination that is Key West.
