Important Guidelines For Obstruction Lighting

By Sally Delacruz

According to the FAA regulations, any structure that is high above ground level by 200 ft. Needs to be marked through illumination. There are various features that may differentiate the requirements of marking in different places such as proximity to airports and the weather among others. The following are basically some guidelines that should be followed for obstruction lighting for different structures.

There are loads of rules that have been set by the FAA centered on the elevation that a building in a particular locality can spread to and the marking necessities. For instance, when red light systems are used, the paint on the structure must be done in interchanging colors of white and orange so that the structure is visible even in the daylight. The red light has to be used to improve conspicuousness in the night. The painting necessities may be ignored if there is usage of dual or white marking system.

Height is just one of the factors that are supposed to be considered when marking a certain structure. There are other things that are checked out by the FAA. For instance, for an industrial structure, the help of a professional is usually required to check out which system will be the best to mark the structure. There are firms that specialize in this kind of work therefore every owner of a building should be able to access assistance.

in presence are several kinds of marking methods that people can pick from so that they avoid any calamities by planes. For example, there exist white systems and red ones. The white are separated into the high power and medium power whites. There is the presence of dual systems that consist of the white and red marking systems.

There have been a lot of advancements in the lighting technology so that now the manufacturers are using LED type of illumination. This is more advantageous because of the increased brightness, long life and reliability of this technology. The LED technology was once just acknowledged for its decorative purposes but today they have gained acceptability in their signaling function.

There are other types of illumination that can be used such as the use of metal halide, incandescent or fluorescent materials. LED lighting is however preferred because it saves more energy and has a longer life. Its light delivery is also better and the maintenance costs are low. This is because it does not need frequent maintenance which helps to save a lot of funds.

This type of lighting has also some additional benefits especially to the environment. Unlike other forms of illumination, it does not use mercury therefore there is no emission of harmful substances to the environment. They also use less energy and therefore limit the impacts of fossil fuels on the environment.

These illuminations are also better since they are simple thus easy to control. There are a number of features that could be added so as to enhance easy control such as switching on/off and lowering of the intensity of light when the heat needs to be controlled. They are never affected simply by changes in weather conditions therefore they can be installed on buildings in any location.
