The 1950s was a time when people were still recovering from the economic aftermath of the Second World War. During this time, the style and fashion had changed in the world and brought new designs which produced an image of glamour and charm. The 1950s jewelry was influenced by creative and elaborate designs that complimented the women wearing it. Designers came up with new ideas for their designs which included big bold pieces that drew much attention when wearing it.

Precious stones such as diamonds and pearls were among the materials used at that time. In addition, gemstones in multiple colours such as green and red caught the eye as well when worn. Necklaces and earring in different shapes and sizes, gold and silver. Among the most prominent gemstones were rhinestone as well as the Aurora Borealis which was a new production at the same time and very fashionable.

Chandelier earrings created an illusion of space and gravity when worn. Available in various shapes and with diamonds attached, this formed a striking look when adding a big neck piece.

One piece of jewelry which made a great fashion statement was the choker necklace which was wrapped around the throat and was usually big. These necklaces were usually made with beads or diamonds in various floral patterns and could also add a pendant in the middle. Such necklaces gave a bold and exotic image accentuating the neck and were often worn with small earrings to compliment it.

What also became trendy were the cascade necklaces which were worn with a number of strands with beads or chains. Jacket pins as well as brooches were a favourite accessory to any woman's hat or coat.Brooches added additional style when attached to a scarf. They came in silver or gold and fixed with precious stones in images of dogs, ballerinas or leaves. The clip earrings also added a sophisticated touch and were extremely popular at the time where pierced earrings were still not in use.

Bangles as well as bracelets were very famous during this era. Big bangles made with gemstones or diamonds was part of a striking yet bold look. Bracelets which were worn with charms chained to them was also very popular and women had the option of choosing which charms to wear. These charm bracelets came in both silver and gold.

Themes of nature and animals inspired many of the designs in this time. Birds, beetles and flowers made beautiful pieces in brooches and pins. Images like ballerina dancers and fruit created a glamorous appeal. Geometrical patterns set with diamonds gave a sophisticated impression. Cocktail jewelry was a prominent trend among people attending cocktail parties. Rings with big gemstones looked very attractive around a woman's finger.

Vintage design has become a common name to the 1950s jewelry which many people now and adore. Interestingly enough, the designs from the past have returned to fashion and has also made its way among collectors who relive the past style of glitz and glamour. A style which your grandmother used and can be used once again by her granddaughter.
