It takes a mere eight minutes to reach the summit of Tenerife's Mount Teide, the world's largest volcano and Spain's highest mountain. But whilst that may seem a nice morning out whilst on bargain holidays to the island, you'll feel a real sense of achievement if you forego the speed of the cable car to put yourself to the test and do it by foot. Five hours is all it takes to do the climb, and you can always catch the cable car back down.
Lots of people don't seem to realise just how rewarding a trek up the Mount Teide can be. Holidays doing energising activities like these are perfect as it helps you release all the stresses and strains of modern day life that we all tend to experience back home in the UK. Teide National Park is about so much more than just walking up Mount Teide. The whole park is a great place to go birdwatching and get close to nature in general. It's also a huge opportunity to keep your kids fit and healthy whilst away from home, which is more more fun than lying about on the beach!
Make sure you do a proper shop before you depart on your holiday. Things that you'll need to bring will be water, hiking boots and lots of sun cream.
The walk is achievable by people of all fitness levels but bear in mind this is a five hour climb, so some basic fitness is necessary.
Late holidays to Tenerife can be quite popular, so make sure you book as soon as possible to avoid missing out. It's also a great chance to bag some bargains before the winter rush properly kicks off. Flights don't tend to be overly-expensive as it's not too far away either.
