Options For Parking Near Seatac

By Jerri Perry

When you book an airline flight, you probably don't automatically think of a place to park, but you should. There are a whole lot of options for parking near Seatac, and you should know what those options are. This knowledge will allow you to find the best place to park your car for your given situation, as long as the best price.

The Seattle-Tacoma airport serves a huge swatch of the western portion of Washington state, so it is always very busy. There is lots of demand for places to park close to the terminals, but this may not always be the best option for you. Choosing your best option depends quite a bit on how long you will be gone and how much money you are willing to spend for the sake of convenience.

The parking that is actually located on Seatac property comes in two main types: long term and short term. Short term generally charges by the hour because it is usually for people who are picking someone up from the airport. People who will only be gone a day or perhaps just over the weekend sometimes use the short term parking because it is so convenient.

If you are going to be gone for more than a couple of days, it is more cost effective to park in the long term spaces. This area is further from the terminals, so you will have a short trek to get to the check in area. The charge is generally by the day, so you will save money compared to the more pricey short term lot.

There are also a variety of offsite choices for parking that are not owned by the port authority. These are independently operated and get to set their own fees, so the price to use these lots varies greatly. Since they are located outside of the airport, most of these lots provide free shuttle service to and from your car. Some may even offer valet and car washing services for an extra fee.

These lots might not be owned by the port authority, but that doesn't mean they aren't safe. In fact, most lots provide 24-hour security to look over all the vehicles, even during weekends and holidays. Fences keep shady characters out and most only allow employees and customers to even get onto the property.

Be aware that these lots will fill up very quickly during peak traveling times, which includes long weekends and holidays. If you plan to travel during this time out of Seatac, you might want to reserve a spot in one of the lots ahead of time. Just ask to make sure that you can cancel that reservation without any kind of fee or penalty, as some places will charge you for a cancellation.

Whether you are traveling for business or for pleasure, finding a place to park for your car at the airport does not have to be a hassle. Parking near Seatac can be easy as long as you know which type of parking you need ahead of time. Then you can enjoy your trip without worries about the safety of your vehicle.
