Food Preparation Techniques for Campers Who Do Not Enjoy Cooking

By Paul Marion

Camping is a fantastic way to take a quick and easy trip that can be relaxing and energizing simultaneously. Nonetheless, one thing that can add work and anxiety to a camping excursion can be food.

The Drawback of Outdoor Camping Food:

Food preparation tasks can take a great deal of work and be lengthy when you consider the time and work associated with purchasing meals, packing it, storing it, transporting it, cooking it and lastly cleaning up after you are finished with your meal. For some people, this contributes to the enjoyment of outdoor camping, but for others, it is not fun.

If you are the type of camper who likes hiking in the woods, fishing in the lake, climbing up rocks or biking on the trails, you might not look forward to the additional work of preparing for eating time. You might not have the area in your vehicle for a portable stove, a big cooler and other food preparation supplies - not to mention the food itself.

The Simple - But Perhaps Not So Good Solution:

Obviously, you can eat dry goods and packaged treats that need no preparation. For lots of people, however, this is not an ideal choice. They prefer more healthy food and cooked meals.

The Good News:

Here is good news. You do not need to succumb to the cooking headache if you want to take in good quality meals. You are able to get pre-packaged dishes that give you the nutrition you want and the hot dishes you are seeking without the work associated with preparing meals.

Dishes Done for You:.

Pre-packaged dishes have come a long way. There is a lot of variety and healthy products to choose from. Besides being easy and fast to make, they are also remarkably budget friendly and use up very little area when you are packing your vehicle.

These meals usually come in compact single serving bags, so you don't need to deal with huge containers or boxes. In some cases, you could even consume your food straight from the meal package. This eliminates the requirement for most dishes, which can be particularly good for individuals who are backpacking. You do not need to pull out the pots and pans to prepare food, and naturally there are no dishes to clean either.

Another advantage to free-dried dishes is that they keep for many years. This means that you can purchase your meals in advance of your camping vacation and simplify the process and time it requires to do your grocery buying and packing. This aspect alone can be a big motivator for individuals to take more camping vacations.

Your Options:

You could get a complete meal in a bag, such as a pasta dinner or beef stew. However, if you simply want dehydrated vegetables and fruits or soup mix, you can do that as well. As I discussed above, there is a huge variety. On top of that, there are a variety of packs you could get which will save you cash and allow you to eat different items at each meal.
