Understanding Violation Patterns Through NYC Crime Maps

By Leticia Jenkins

There are other responsibilities that law enforcement officers have to perform aside from the actual prevention of illegal activities. One of these is to utilize data and information into a visual image such as NYC Crime Maps to help them properly interpret and understand various violation patterns within their jurisdictions.

It has been a known practice within various law enforcement agencies to utilize the data that they have gathered out of the various operations they have performed within their jurisdiction to help get a better picture and understanding of how illegal acts are performed as well as who are performing them in their respective areas of responsibilities.

Having a visual rendition out of these gathered information and data will help police officers and other forces working under the law to determine which part of the areas under their surveillance could be considered hot spots where law breaches and illegal activities are concerned.

Various law enforcers rely heavily on NYC Crime Maps to help them detect and prevent any violation from occurring. Also, these data rolled out in a visual presentation allow them to gain better understanding on how and why these violations are made.

Many officers also benefit from the use of pertinent data that they have gathered since by knowing which areas are likely settings for violations, they get to counter these incidents from occurring by allocating the right amount of resources. Measures such as increase in police visibilities can also be done to help achieve positive results.

Knowing how violation patterns are spread within a certain vicinity will also help officers of the law to help generate plans and methods that will allow them to find ways on how to reduce the occurrences of these incidents if not fully resolve such issues.

Many people who are involved in the renditions of NYC Crime Maps are sworn officers. Most of the time, they have been subjected to specialized training programs that give them proper knowledge where interpretation of data is concerned. There have also been instances where law enforcers seek the aid of civilians.
