The resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie can be found in the Trinity Cathedral. The Emperor holds legendary status in Rastafarian and Ethiopian culture. A large chunk of his fame came from his dedication to repelling invasion by the Italians during the scramble and partitioning of Africa by European powers. The buildings, now in ruins, were built for the Ethiopian Empress Mentewab in the 1700s. The Royal Enclosure within the area was designated a world heritage site by UNESCO. It contains a total of five castles built by Ethiopian kings in succession during the 1700s.

A visit is never complete without a trip to Axum. It is historically significant as it was the capital of the olden Axumite Empire. Nowadays, it is guarded under UNESCO regulations. Notably, the two thousand year old Stelae fields situated nearby still stand as they were.

Your tour should come to an end at Lalibela. The area is home to Mount Asheton monastery. Constructed in the 1200s, the monastery primarily consists of carved rocks. There are flights available to Addis Ababa from Lalibela.
