Travel To Iceland For An Unforgettable Experience

By Cathy Mercer

Vacations mean different things to different people. Some want beaches or relaxing by the pool, sipping drinks. Of course, there are others that want much more than just a chance to get. In reality, there is so much the world offers, which can only be enjoyed through one's own eyes. Take for example everything that can be experienced in memorable travel to Iceland.

Located in the northern hemisphere, this Nordic country, an island, is nestled at the confluence of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. Its population is only just over 300,000, with about 60% of its inhabitants living in the southwestern region. Although many foreigners are not aware of it, this European country is actually volcanically active.

While some people may think that it is freezing cold year around, considering its location, it's not. In fact, its climate is quite temperate thanks to the Gulf Stream which warms it. Starting off, it was known as one of the poorest countries in the world, but a lot has changed since then carried in fact, thanks to its low corporate taxes, corporations flock to the island country which boasts a similar Nordic country welfare system. Today, it is one of the most promising and prosperous nations around the world.

As English is a compulsory course in schooling, it is spoken and widely understood by its citizens, so visiting there isn't a challenge. Alternatively, it is a blessing, and a place that should be on everyone's "bucket list" because of how different it is. It has a raw beauty that isn't seen anywhere else, thanks to its volcanoes and actual location. Its renewable energy never ceases to amaze people, either.

It has an inner plateau with lava fields and sands, mountains and glaciers. It has glacial rivers that flow through its lowlands and on occasion, polar bears that visit from Greenland. There are none actually living on the island. Of course, no matter how temperate the climate, there won't be much swimming in the ocean going on because it is chilly nonetheless, but they did come up with solutions.

There are over 170 geothermal outdoor swimming pools to take advantage of. A memorable visit to the glacier lagoon should be on anyone's list as is a riding tour on Icelandic horses. But that's just the beginning.

What's important about vacationing here is to allow for the pleasure that all these differences provide. Breathtaking views and fascinating geysers make this place extremely special. Perhaps understanding all its renewable energy, and how the geysers provide heat and hot water to all the citizens naturally would intrigue you enough.

Whale watching is extremely popular, as is diving in the pristine waters that surround this island. Travel to Iceland is fulfilling for all types of travelers, whether they just want to partake in sightseeing or enjoy an action filled getaway. Mountain bike riding and hiking through the rough terrains is a definite recommendations, as is skiing and river-rafting. Also, when visiting a place that offers so much diversity, enjoy their culture and way of life to really get a feel of the Icelandic life.
