Five Great San Diego Activities

By Terry Hunefeld

1. Old Town sidewalks overflow with people who come to revisit history, to shop and to savor some of the best and greatest variety of food that San Diego has to offer. Guests wander through Old Town's historic buildings, including the blacksmith shop, Seeley Stables and the haunted Whaley House. According to the Travel Channel's America's Most Haunted, the Whaley House is the number one most haunted house in the United States. The alleged hauntings of the Whaley House have been reported on numerous other television programs and been written up in countless publications and books since the house first opened as a museum in 1960.

2. Visit the Cave Store at La Jolla. What would you expect to find in a "cave store", maybe some fossils or seashells? There's more. They have a hole in the floor of the store that leads down to the only sea cave in California you can enter by land via 40 stairs into the earth - the wonderful and spooky Sunny Jim Cave. The smells, the sounds, the feel! Walls of the tunnel have water trickling and you go down...down...until you walk out a small wooden dock into the cave with the ocean crashing on the rocks below and gulls nesting in tucked away places above.

3. Visit downtown San Diego's Seaport Village for hours of free entertainment, leisurely strolling and window-shopping. Here you can explore 50-plus diverse shops, 17 unique eateries and outdoor entertainment and find everything under the sun. Enjoy a laid-back day of hanging out in the grass, watching yachts and ships go by on picturesque San Diego Bay or take in the sights and absorb the unique atmosphere from one of the many bay-view eateries.

4. Spend a cool, relaxing day at the enormous (4,000 plus acres!) Mission Bay Park surrounding Mission Bay. Many families pack the car and spend the day here. They bring bikes, scooters, camping chairs and foldable picnic tables. On the way to the park be sure to pick up a bunch of take-out food... (we recommend Rubio's or Filberto's) and pack a cooler full of drinks and extra snacks. Bring the badminton set and books, crosswords and Sudoku puzzles. It's a great place to relax or bike or walk along the sidewalks. Just find a nice spot under one of the many trees and either catch some sun or fall asleep in the shade. On warm days you get a cool breeze from the bay and the ocean. Oh, and you can bring your dog too. This is America's Finest City, get outside and enjoy it!

5. Head to one of dozens of San Diego beaches (all free!) where you can swim, body surf, boogie-board, read a book, people watch, collect seashells or just chill. No adult beverages are allowed on San Diego beaches anymore, so you can be assured of a fun, peaceful day at the beach. Sunsets are always magnificent with sparkling postcard-perfect views of the ocean.

Travel To France : A Tourist's Dream

By Jamie Gibbs

France receives 82 million foreign tourists annually, making it the world's top destination. By itself, the Eiffel Tower brings in 6.2 million visitors per year. However, aside from the cultural value and historic past of Paris, the nation also provides beaches, beautiful landscapes and skiing.

France is of course world-famous for its cuisine and so finding a fine dining experience is a simple task whether it be anything from a simple and affordable brassier or bistro to a Michelin starred restaurant. When you get your restaurant bill, the service charges and taxes are incorporated into the total.

France is also world-renown for its wines and is a veritable paradise for wine lovers. The quality of the various wines you can discover is astounding, but try not to indulge in too much wine as French authorities are fairly strict when it comes to drivers who are over the limit. Beer is also a popular drink, especially to the north.

French hotels fall into one of four categories from 1 to 4 stars, as designated by the Ministry of Tourism. This rating is exhibited on a blue shield by the entrance to all hotels. All hotels in France must display their rating on the outside of the building by law, however don't be afraid to go in and ask about their pricing.

City centre hotels are usually quite small, so it would be advantageous to book in advance. Be sure to verify your parking procedures, particulary in the larger urban areas.

Bed and Breakfast establishments are mainly available in rural areas, where they are known as Chambres d'htes. These operate on a nightly basis, as do the motel style hotels that lie along the roadside.

If you plan to stay in France for an extended period of time you may want to consider renting a house, apartment, or a villa from a reputable travel website. This is a good option if several of you are planning to travel together.

Jeffrey's Bay History

By Andrew Keet

There are quite a few theories as to exactly how Jeffrey's Bay got its name. The predominate one is that there was a trading ship captain, Captain Jeffrey's, that sailed the east coast of Africa in the 1800s and when his crew came down with scurvy he landed his vessel at what is now the main beach of Jeffrey's Bay. Captain Jeffrey's later returned with his family and bought erven 1, 2, 9 and 10 for 79, here he built his home on the corner of Woltemade and Jeffrey's Streets. In 1928 the then, prominent Reilly family, moved to Jeffreys Bay and reportedly used the original timber from Captain Jeffrey's ship to build their home.

Of course there were other families in the Eastern Cape of South Africa called Jeffrey's at the time one been a prominent trader in the area in the 1850s and the other a whale hunter from St Helena, who used Jeffery's Bay as a harbour and trading post.

The Reillys bought the land that Country Feeling now occupies and built the old Wimpy Bar during the 1960s. This building was demolished in 1964, and the Reilly's constructed a double-story building, which they used as a tea garden, with residential flats and a gift shop sharing the same property.

In the 1850s the well known Jeffrey's Bay Hotel was build which was renamed the Savoy in 1937, it was demolition in 1968 along with a part of Jeffrey's Bay history.

Perhaps more important is the historical finding of the waves that have put Jeffrey's Bay on the international map of the surfing world. It is generally believed that the legendary John Whitmore, known as the father of South African surfing, discovered the waves along the coast while travelling the Garden Route on a business trip in the 1950s. He watched the world-famous waves roll onto the shore in awe. Since then, Jeffrey's has consistently performed at equally impressive levels for the surfing community and the international Billabong Pro competition.

Strategic Decisions on Accommodation Considerations

By Monique Mertrandes

Though vacations are supposed to be the time to be care free and just take it easy, the scheduling and arrangements that should be done before you start your vacation can be exhausting. Sometimes, it feels like you have to attend to a million and one things - the accommodations, travel bookings, deciding what to bring, and many more. Just thinking about the tasks can already be tiring but you should not allow yourself to be harassed by the multitude of decisions to be made.

So, pause for a moment, determine the status of your preparation and ask yourself some key questions that would lead you to the right direction in planning. Take note that if you have planned to spend your vacation in Breckenridge, Colorado, then you've made one good decision already and you're on the road to a successful plan.

While dealing with the choices of whether to stay in a vacation home or to get ski-in, ski-out accommodations, you will have a considerably easy time if you really know how you will want to spend your time during your vacation. Here are some important factors to consider in order to choose the right accommodations.

Where do you want to stay? In assessing which accommodations to take, visualize yourself during your vacation. Do you want to be skiing early in the morning, or are you very interested in socializing in the Breckenridge bars and cafes? It is possible that you are not the type who enjoys interacting with a lot of people but would want peace and quiet. Your planned means of transportation will also help you choose your accommodations. Will you have your car with you so that long distances won't be a problem? Or you would prefer to be within walking distance from everything you want to explore in Breckenridge?

Price You Can Afford. Unmistakably, most people think of the price before finalizing any vacation plan. Getting the cheapest option is not always a good deal. Make sure you do not get a dull or drab room that will only give you a depressed disposition during your vacation. Adding a few bucks usually gives you a much better place to stay.

Amenities. Set another time to review your accommodations needs. Is it important to book a place where you can enjoy a swim or exercise everyday? In evaluating accommodations options, determine if you will be using the amenities that go with the place. If you are not, then choose an alternative where you will be paying only for features and services that you will actually use. Likewise, choose a lodging that features the amenities you need to make your stay comfortable, such as a well-equipped kitchen. Also, do you need room for your family and visitors who hang out in your place? Here, a hotel room may not be big enough.

Season during your vacation? Like other places, Breckenridge changes with the seasons. So, plan your activities according to the time you plan to be in Breckenridge. You can see how your accommodation choices are determined by your needs during your vacation. Furthermore, if you will be there for just a few days, a condo unit might turn out to be the best choice. But, if you can stay for an extended time, a vacation home would be a better alternative.

It is apparent that before planning a trip, you should have adequate information not only of your preferences but those of your travel buddies as well. If you are tasked to plan the vacation, make sure to get important inputs from all the members of your travel group so that you can plan for them to enjoy the vacation as they want it to be.

Looking For And Finding Disneyland Discount Tickets

By Ethan Timmerton

You can ask every person about the dream place that they want to visit and one of the most responses that you will get is Disneyland. To be a child again and see the wonderful cartoon characters created by Walt Disney, there is an urge among us adults to at least take a glimpse inside Disneyland and see these cartoon characters come to life.

However, the dream of going to Disneyland may just remain a dream for most of us. This is for the reason that no matter how amusing this place is, we may not be amused of the price of the ticket that we need to buy for entrance, as they can be very expensive.

If you browse the internet, you may have read that it is possible to get Disneyland discount tickets. Sounds exciting? However, you must know at this early point in time, finding Disneyland discount tickets may not be as simple as you may think. This is for the reason that Disney itself may not give discounts but there are companies that may just give assistance on that topic.

One of the things that you can do to get Disneyland discount tickets is to reach them this year, which is 2009, and tell them that it's your birthday. They will simply ask for several identifications plus documents that will prove that it is really your birthday. Once you are able to prove this, then you are eligible for a free ticket. Not just a discounted one but for free. What a perfect birthday gift, right?

When you buy the Disneyland ticket online, you may be able to take advantage of a discount. This is because they will charge you more if you wait to do it at the gates. Yet another choice you have is purchasing them sooner than you will attend the park.

Lastly, there are a number of travel agents online that may offer Disneyland Discount Tickets if you look hard enough. They offer promotions all the time and sometimes offer discount bundled packages if you buy a large number of tickets. Perform a search on the net but be warned that Disneyland only authorizes a certain number of companies to offer its discount tickets to the general public. So it's not that simple to find them. But with some luck, you'll find a great deal.

Getting Disneyland discount tickets may not be as easy as it could be since you are required to do a lot of research online. But just think of the reward and happiness that you can get once you get a hold of this ticket. This is one childhood dream that will come true through thorough searching.
